@futurebird Flawed unions are always better than the absence of unions.Tech workers in recent years have found out what it means to not have unions.

How to fix homelessness: free housing. How to beat bus fare evasion: free buses. Both methods cost less than punishing the poor by criminalizing and jailing them.If you don't like the idea of being taxed to implement those solutions: I don't care - it would make our society objectively better so your annoyance is a small price to pay.

If you are a NYC democratic voter and are wondering who you should rank 1-5 in the mayoral primary, here is Olayemi Olurin's informed opinion on the primary backed by facts and interviews. She's way smarter than me so listen to her instead. If you don't want to watch (you should anyway) the short version is:1. Zohran Mamdani2. Brad Lander3. Zellnor Myrie4. Michael Blake5. Adrienne AdamsDO NOT RANK CUOMOhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJt8xtvmg2U#NYC #uspol #mayor #primaries

@futurebird The only flyers we got here were the ones attacking Mamdani by that massive Cuomo super-pac - and we got a lot of them, all arriving in the last two weeks before the primary.

@futurebird Younger voters show up in droves if someone actually listens to them and the challenges they face.Anyway, that's what the recent mayoral primary showed. But establishment Dems do not like that lesson one bit.

@futurebird He was on the WFP slate for mayor and cross-endorsed with Mamdani for the primary. He also endorsed Mamdani for the general. His campaign website for mayor does have a lot of info ( https://blakefornyc.com/ ). Though I will admit that I only learned about him through an Olayemi Olurin YT video on the mayoral primary (he was one of the five she suggested to rank, on top of saying to not rank Cuomo).

"Unions are the best way that working people can build a stable life. But in a city as expensive as New York, they also need local government on their side to lower costs and make life better."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkVTx66XhSM#ZohranMamdani #NYC #uspol #unions #housing

Yes, I block people spewing anti-union rhetoric. They're not perfect, but their absence is far worse for workers.

@futurebird Up until a 2024 it was setup for NTSC/ATSC 1.0 - at its peak (when I was using an external antenna in the attic) I could access up to 70 channels, but there were repeats (SD/HD) so the real number was between 45-50). Then channels started to go away, though I was already watching less TV.I still have an internal antenna but with ATSC 1.0 being killed there's not much point anymore.

@futurebird @semitones Also living in an NYC apartment (largish one by NYC standards - 650sq.ft of usable space in a duplex). For us, it's about maximalism - using our space as efficiently as possible meaning compact storage is key. Our cheat code is that we're in a two-floor coop complex, meaning we have an attic. We have full sized dishwasher and oven, though the oven is only used occasionally aside from holding pots/pans. Smaller appliances would make more sense but were more expensive.

@futurebird Boxcat says this is no laughable matter - boxes are a delight and even humans can enjoy them, even if they enjoy them wrong; then again, humans take boxes away so clearly they're not okay.

@futurebird Depends how full the train happens to be. I don't mind local if I can sit.
