@wjmaggos Total shit show, I watched live. Alex is entertaining as hell but he has no business in a real debate. Destiny is usually the most obnoxious interrupter in the room but he couldn't hold a candle to Alex. I really felt for the moderator ( @IanCrossland )I wished it were just Destiny and Glenn for a serious debate. Calendar applications are way too complicated. They're not even applications, they're part of your whole account system. You have to subscribe to each external calendar with your whole soul. On my Android variant, I use a separate application just to manage my subscriptions and the calendars I've created for myself. My actual calendar application merely taps into the calendars I'm subscribed to and created on my account. This is crazy.

People complain about the existence of genres. "If it's good music it's good music! You don't need to categorize everything, man."I'll give their point credit that genres can close people off from appreciating something that doesn't fit what they expect.But I still think they're missing a value in genres. Musicians and fans sometimes find a new wavelength. They give it a name because there's something specific they like about it. They want more of it and they don't want it adulterated.

@wjmaggos He's an official member of the Libertarian Party. Because of their current political machinations, they are doing the usual cult gaslighting routine for anyone who criticize the libertarians who support him by pointing out that he's not a libertarian. And maybe he's more libertarian than the alternative, and/or maybe they prefer his authoritarian rules over the current, but surely the things you bring up are not libertarian. I hope too many people won't lose their principles entirely.

I hate that "algorithm" was stolen by pop culture from math and computer people to mean something different without anyone realizing it.But I'll admit they are gesturing toward something. They sometimes mean "recommendation engine". They sometimes mean "spam filter". Basically anything machine learning related. There's an overarching theme to how it affects us.I could live with them coining "algo" as a slang term.
