@urusanIt is a real model which is isomorphic to many things in the observable universe, which makes it useful. However, it remains unclear if it is the only such model possible, and it is also clear that mapping it to real world observables is very complex (which is the task of theoretical physics).It remains possible that no model can fit the universe perfectly, but we operate on the assumption this is not true.

@urusanI liked it enough to use it for my project site buildout. There are a few things I'm worried about. The continuous release model means there's a risk of breakage at any rebuild, which reduces repeatability. That means I'll have to rely on backups, rather than, say, my Ansible playbook (though I did use some playbooks).

@urusanI've got Nextcloud installed and combined with Collabora (which is a LibreOffice port to browser/Nextcloud).But I haven't really used it for anything. My family is still using Discord and Google Drive.I'm running all this on a Digital Ocean VPS, so I don't know how well it'll hold up.đ€đ@RL_Dane

@stuxIt always cracks me up the way some people get about language.When there's attempted coup and you're all under threat for your lives, I personally feel you are allowed to say "shit" -- especially when you mean it literally.

I posted a new #PeerTube video to my feed here on mastodon . art, and to my Facebook.After 3hrs, this #Mastodon post has 20 stars and 14 boosts. And I posted it at 9AM locally, which is not a fast time (the coordinate release time was '1400 hrs GMT').Meanwhile, the #Facebook post has 1 like (by me), 0 reacts, 0 shares, and 2 comments -- both by me.Seems to me Mastodon is, of the two, the place to get seen! If you don't pay for promotion, the FB algorithm actively punishes external media.

I am told that Mastodon is too "complicated", and "regular people" need something "simple" like Twitter.I find this an extremely bizarre objection.I mean, I genuinely find the Twitter interface LESS intuitive. WTF are they talking about?Federation itself does add a tiny bit of complexity, and that's unavoidable. But are you really going to say "I need to be confined to a single corporate entity, because I can't handle being free -- because, decisions?"I mean, that's just so sad.

I do get a kick out of package design. This was a label for a vinyl soundtrack album.I have mixed feelings about releasing this as "merch". It's one of the things that is "already done", but that's largely because it's also mostly just collecting other people's (CC By-SA) work.

It also helps people who aren't familiar with your visual medium, characters, or settings.Also -- ha ha -- you actually have MORE ROOM in the caption than you do in your post (at least on mastodon.art), so you can stick in bonus OMAKE content that you had to cut to get your post down to 500 characters!Which also means you can WRITE OUT abbreviated text (which has to be better for screen readers, too).

So you'll probably be fine.People are generally supportive of such stuff. I actually finally sold some posters I'd been sitting on for a year after I joined. Once again, the engagement:followers ratio is a lot higher here.

Mastodon has exceeded 6 million users now. No sign of a slowdown in new users, yet. If anything, there is a slight upward curve. đČI'm excited to see Mastodon booming.
