i won't go on too long about this, lest i be accused of "not reading until the end," and i'll take my comments to their synchronous, scheduled, discussion time, if i can find the time to do so, i guess, buti disagree with the core analogy of the post, that students without a lot of experience newly joining the community of leet haxors in 1993 and every september onward are comparable in any way to people who have embraced ai tools while ignoring all the damage that comes of it

i forget when or why i got the idea that "sure aws is dirt cheap but you'll be happier with a small human-run vps host"because actually aws is a shitload more expensive and you'll be happier with a small vps hosti don't even like price comparing because a small biz run by humans is intrinsically better than a giant corporation enriching a billionaire so who cares about race-to-the-bottombut if you just need that extra kick, consider how much 💸 you're wasting on aws:

@stellarskylark oh yeah colocataires has no free tier beyond about a month of "move-in" time, if you can get free services out of the big corps without getting locked-in by inertia or their proprietary stuff i say go for itbut if you're actually giving money to those assholes and don't wanna... you can leave, hit the bricks, cops if your quick

@stellarskylark omg cool! tangentially i am not very satisfied with cloud-init, terraform, distrobuilder, docker files, or any other virtual-machine-provisioning mechanism i've ever had to use so i've been super envious of the stuff i keep hearing about in nix and guix land for doing such things. haven't had the brain space to actually try it out yet... but somedayif you happen to blog about your experience i would love to read it, please mention on fedi!

i suspect people who don't need glp-1 drugs must imagine that the drug allows you to eat as much as you typically do without getting fatand that's why insurance doesn't cover it, because we're just enjoying food too much or enjoying a brisk walk too little which is a moral failure not a chemical imbalance
