Even older common law forms (such as tenancy in common) provide essentially equal, permission-less rights of access and use to marital property.Now, the bitcoin password in this case, and the coins themselves, are likely to have been (often automatically) under one of these spousal forms of property ownership and control.Thus it can be argued that one spouse looking at a bitcoin password is not any form of theft or unlawful taking at all - because the thing being viewed is *already* properly within the rights of the spouse viewing the passwords via CCTV.

@AdrianRiskin Thanks for the pointer.I would really like This Land is Our Land to become the new US National Anthem.Other tunes have been suggested but this one expresses best the idea that we - you and I and the rest of us - own this country and that we, despite our disagreements, are in charge.

@internetarchive The destruction of Flash, including its final non-functioning update that poked around the machine and erased any older, functioning Flash, was one of the greatest acts - or was the greatest act - of internet vandalism ever.(Flash was being used by Adobe as a quite unhappy donkey onto which they would pin every new idea, no matter how irrelevant to the basic function of Flash - including VoIP PBX functions - so it is no wonder that it became a nightmare and security nightmare.)

@dangillmor It is my totally uneducated and anecdotal opinion that electronics based AI is a technical dead end.We can, for example, gain much greater degrees of parallelism and energy efficiency by adopting methods from chemistry and biology. For instance, it strikes me that chemical based long-sequence pattern matching based on things like CRISPR, could gain several orders of efficiency over a mountain of Nvidia processors bathed in a cooling liquid (a la Cray 2).Also, a lot of modern electronic AI tries to go for excessive precision and is thus wasteful. Consider, for example, how you might walk across a park. You do not need an instruction that says "turn to 92.587 degrees (true) and go 87.357 meters". You really need "go East for about 90 meters". That is where analog computing, or low precision digital, may readily dominate today's electronic methods.

@libreoffice Hmm, I've been using a tool that does that already, it's called "emacs".(Update: I do think that a "let me just write!" mode is a good thing. But over the decades I've gotten tired learning YAWOET - Yet Another Way Of Editing Text.)
