@Sylvhem if you are somewhat familiar with programming concepts already, I can recommend Rustlings. I didn’t use it myself, but I used Ziglings to learn Zig which is the same concept adapted for a different language, and it was very fun to me.

fell through the other kind of wikipedia rabbit hole this afternoon: went on the talk page of an article, saw an user being weirdly aggressive about the inclusion of a specific information saying it shouldn’t be there because it’s "obscure", and looking at their profile and sockpuppet investigations and finding a whole web of sockpuppets orchestrated by a PR company

être suffisamment compétent dans une seconde langue pour être familier avec ses expressions idiomatiques, savoir reconnaître celles qu’on ne connaît pas et les intégrer c’est super intéressant parce que à un niveau tu fais pas forcément le lien entre une autre expression dans ta langue maternelle. Par exemple je viens juste d’associer mentalement "cookie cutter" et "à l’emporte pièce", c’est une traduction assez transparente pourtant j’avais jamais fait le lien

I feel like there’s a strong case for there being a (sub)genre of fiction about protagonists finding themselves in opposition to a force that controls the world and/or reality around them.A friend I’ve been watching TV shows like this with have jokingly referred to them as "entrapment shows" so I think about that proposed genre as "entrapment" thought that might not be the best term for itThere are plenty of these stories in popular culture, almost always in sci-fi, and in these stories you can find tropes and recurring themes such as the self, alterity, collectivism vs individualism, existentialism, etc., it all fits really neatly into postmodernism

To me "media preservation" only counts if it’s some form of public ownership, legal or illegal (libraries or piracy). Private companies keeping or bringing back things around through commerce doesn’t count, because long-term availability and accessibility is never going to be guaranteed.Arguing whether, for example, Nintendo is doing enough to preserve their video games is a moot point in my opinion.

@gamingonlinux this is a bit of a random article to express that sentiment but it made me realize how much of a breath of fresh air your blog is for gaming news, even beyond stuff strictly about Linux, because your very human voice very clearly comes accross, contrary to all the soulless SEO-chasing that makes up the more mainstream gaming press (you could blame AI for that and you’d definitely be right, but even before it was widespread, and even on sites that don’t use it, it’s been the same attention-grabbing formulas and turns of phrases that really become grating and fake over time)
