       I feel like there’s a strong case for there being a (sub)genre of fiction about protagonists finding themselves in opposition to a force that controls the world and/or reality around them.A friend I’ve been watching TV shows like this with have jokingly referred to them as "entrapment shows" so I think about that proposed genre as "entrapment" thought that might not be the best term for itThere are plenty of these stories in popular culture, almost always in sci-fi, and in these stories you can find tropes and recurring themes such as the self, alterity, collectivism vs individualism, existentialism, etc., it all fits really neatly into postmodernism

       Works I think fit into this potential genre (you’ve probably heard me talk about some of those a lot already if you’ve been following me for a while) :- I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream- The Prisoner- The Truman Show- The Matrix- The Good Place- Severance- The Amazing Digital Circus- PluribusAll of those are rather well-known, there are probably many, many more examples, feel free to name some if you think of any
