@PaulWermer @futurebird I’m not certain it’s politeness as it’s worry. It’s really hard to have such infighting this close to the election. I am certainly confident in Kamala, but absolutely know how much misogyny and racism exists in our country. As much as people hide it around “she’s not likeable terms”. I wish we were not here to begin with.

@futurebird @PaulWermer well we are ruled by this patriarchal mindset that says showing weakness is a death knell. I’m pragmatic and prefer honesty myself, but I think that him being steely is the right call if it’s a case of being adamant he’s the best choice. I’m eager to see the results of that poll and I hope it’s good. I really wish he hadn’t made that gaffe about her. To associate with Trump was a strange gaffe.

@futurebird well, yes…we are storytellers and myth makers. Everything we accept as reality today is basically ideas that we have mutually agreed upon as truth. That’s why so much attention on banning certain books. This is why people want to deny certain historical facts. If we accept it as true, how does this change our future?

@futurebird I tried my damndest to meet my future partner online. I online dated before online dating services. I treated it like a job application, a numbers game. Probably 2% conversion rate to dating the men I met (those were usually only a few months too). I finally met my husband at work when I turned 31. We were just friends at first but I was open to friendship by that time. And friends for the win. That was the smartest decision I ever made.

@futurebird it’s required of the young people to serve 2 years as a missionary. Who wouldn’t choose NYC? My dad used to entertain the Jehovah’s Witness missionaries when he got older. He had no intention of converting but he liked the company.

@wjmaggos history has shown they don’t care about that. They are simply afraid of the longer term outcomes. Eventually powerless and extinct. Not that we aren’t doing a very good job of killing ourselves and everyone else.

@wjmaggos what I’m saying is that liberalism at its best allows for this type of intellectual contrariness, intellectual curiosity …something they are trying to destroy unwittingly. There is definitely something to be said for groupthink and “political correctness”. Not that I agree with all of those arguments, and I don’t like the way they’ve weaponized it.

@strypey maybe my list isn’t big enough, but my posts send with a simple inexpensive paid act. I haven’t had to hook up a mail service in addition. Very small list, though. I opted to drop substack even if it would have been both free and easier to get subscribers. I tried several services and Ghost has been much better than a lot of them

@futurebird my mom, an evangelical, always equated the stock market to gambling. Earning interest on money is also a “sin”. Asking for prayer offerings apparently isn’t though.
