What's worse? A party where everyone is too scared of the bully at the top to get rid of him... or a party where everyone is too polite and bound up by "norms" to get rid of the old guy at the top?I mean, the first one is obviously worse but they both are bad.

I think the US is as a whole too enamored of powerful men. They ought to be more disposable.

@futurebird politics and large corporations are just nepotistic pyramid schemes - suck up for the promise of advancement but in the end it’s just a sea of ā€œyesā€ people propping the whole course of cards up - rarely do those on top represent the most qualified.

@futurebird I honestly think I would approach this from a consequentialist perspective, as I don't have a lot of solid principles on how parties work. I think a party controlled by one person might be worse than an ineffective party, mostly on history. The party I'm most active in is filled with people who will gladly and frequently attack people seen as a figurehead for the party, even if they're being unfair/unreasonable in doing so. That has its own problems.

@futurebird Even worse: a party who argues so much within itself about their candidate that they lose any momentum they had heading into the election and end up losing the vote to an awful Fascist dictator with the unified support of the capital class who effectively puts an end to future elections.

@futurebird I get the sense that the U.S. is sort of adrift right now and many people aren't sure what they want in leadership. Which I guess makes a "strong man" stepping out of the shadows look even more appealing to certain people.

@futurebird I agree with you in that both are bad. But I think it's a mistake to think that the Cons are "scared" of Trump. I believe they're quite conscious about his possition and agree with him. The same applies to most Dems.

@futurebird I'm definitely going with the first. At least in the case of the second there can be a fighting chance of getting someone else in his place initially, even if it ends up past a certain point where they get stuck and can no longer change. In the case of Trump, the GOP wasn't even allowed to consider anyone else from the very start for two whole election cycles and are changing just as a whole into a nazi party through usage of his nature.

@futurebird Personally I think we're long past the point where the GOP needs to be considered enemies of the state and removed from most ballots. Democrats should be split up into liberals and conservatives because frankly 3/4 of the Democrats are conservatives. Like seriously, if it didn't say "democrat" on the ballot, all the people on the right would vote for them.

@futurebird yep. Once again we are forced to choose between the lesser of 2 weevils, uh, evils. And I'll vote for Biden in a heartbeat. Not voting pretty much guarantees pure bigoted evil.

@PaulWermer @futurebird I’m not certain it’s politeness as it’s worry. It’s really hard to have such infighting this close to the election. I am certainly confident in Kamala, but absolutely know how much misogyny and racism exists in our country. As much as people hide it around ā€œshe’s not likeable termsā€. I wish we were not here to begin with.

@zannesan @PaulWermer The Biden campaign is doing some serious polling on Kamala this weekend and may not release it but whatever it says I hope they are being pragmatic. That said should he stay in I think it'd help if he had a less stubborn stance on if he needs help and how he's doing. Think about how much it would calm people if he said something like "I'm at my best sitting down" or if he used a cane. IDK maybe it's just me ... I feel nervous because he seems to push himself so much?

@zannesan @PaulWermer Like there is no reason a person with like ... chronic fatigue couldn't do that job. You'd just need accommodations. But he hates that stuff and so watching him talking is like watching a high wire act.

@futurebird @PaulWermer well we are ruled by this patriarchal mindset that says showing weakness is a death knell. I’m pragmatic and prefer honesty myself, but I think that him being steely is the right call if it’s a case of being adamant he’s the best choice. I’m eager to see the results of that poll and I hope it’s good. I really wish he hadn’t made that gaffe about her. To associate with Trump was a strange gaffe.

@futurebird And what about the extreme left who have hated Biden with a passion and are now falling into lockstep behind him? They aren't doing it out of politeness. What has convinced them that Biden has a better chance of winning than Harris? Did they "just fall out of a coconut tree"? :)
