@kravietz @anderspuck @DeeGLloyd they got what they wanted. And the IDF as well as the government knew that. But did choose to do it anyhow.

@DeeGLloyd @fulelo @kravietz @anderspuck I didn't necessarily mean the Hamas attack as such. But that one of Hamas' goals with the attack was an Israeli attack on Gaza.Every Palestinian kid killed leads to less support for Israel. And potentially more support for Hamas.Israel is making so far all of US' war on terror mistakes in quick order.

@DeeGLloyd @fulelo @kravietz @anderspuck regarding the attack as such: there was some intel that at least something would be happenin, like a warning from Egypt and an actual drop in signal intelligence. But Israeli intelligence didn't act accordingly.

@kravietz well, it's for a German audience. And they have to make sure that everybody understands what is said. Not the average person, but everybody. Even illiterate people.

@kravietz I suppose the dubbing makes it perfect for fake news. Because nobody really knows what was said.

@kravietz @aligyie @dynode AfD is not polling strong because of a pro-nuclear stance. They are much more vocal in their support for fossil fuels... True Germans love lignite.

@kravietz @aligyie @dynode as I told you before: in Germany you get either nuclear+coal. Or renewables+coal.Take Bavaria's prime minister for example: now he is supportive of nuclear. But just prio 2022 he was adamant that nuclear would be phased out...

@kravietz why hypocrisy?Energy consumption and production always comes with a cost.Environmental, societal, economical. As I said before: less renewables in Germany will not lead to a resurrection of nuclear. But to ever more coal or gas power plants.Just watch what is happening in the state of Thuringia were the FDP, CDU and AfD are trying to kill wind power.

@kravietz and btw your main source is Bild? Which isn't a credible source. Except for nudes. The only credible source you mention is correctiv.org. Which partly debunks the claims.Please. Direct your criticism towards lignite powerplants and mining. And not against a few wind power plants that might or might not be built.

@VikingChieftain @sarahbeck @anderspuck in some way they have to.But the US will lose a lot of influence. They will be more and more isolated. The Republicans with their stance on Ukraine and Israel are likely the biggest threat to America's standing in the world. If it weren't for a certain type of condescending attitude China might actually drive a wedge between Europe and the US.

@sarahbeck @VikingChieftain @kravietz @anderspuck let's just say that France would get what it always wanted (a strategic independent Europe with France as a main actor) in a way it never wanted.

@kravietz @kevinrothrock liberation from Nazi occupation didn't mean freedom in Eastern Europe. It meant leaving death row for a communal cell.(liberation from being a Nazi did mean freedom in Austria and Western Germany...)

@kravietz @Ste53 having no sense for strategy and only short term business interests at heart is good German tradition.

@kravietz @Ste53 I am from the Ruhr. My sister in law is Polish, my godmother is Polish, my neighbours next door are Polish. A quarter of my eldest daughter's class mates are Polish. And one of my great grandmothers was Silesian.

A new video by @anderspuck This time about the rationale behind the russian human wave attacks. This video highlights to me one core problem of war studies and IR: we (and e.g. russia) only have imperfect assessments on the thought process and values of our opposition. What makes sense to us doesn't need to make sense to them. And the larger this discrepancy the larger the room for misunderstandings and errors.E.g. we thought they would freeze the conflict...https://youtu.be/-8ZPbnVqHrY?si=MrbDVptiIrf9Jy7s

@anderspuck russia cannot win if we keep supporting Ukraine. But once we stop, they can. Especially since stopping the aid would lead to cracks in the Western alliances.E.g. why would and should Europe support the US on China if the US doesn't support us on russia? Would the US come to Poland's aid? Would Germany muster the will to oppose russia in the Baltics without American support?
