Yesterday #NATO Stoltenberg gave an interview to #Germany ARD where he allegedly says "we should also be prepared for bad news from Ukraine".All #Russia and #Ukraine (!) channels are sharing it like crazy in a Russian language paraphrase published by... TASS. The only English language source I found with exactly this wording is also TASS. The news is also published by a ton of Iranian, Brazilian etc news sites, but their origin is obvious.Stoltenberg doesn't seem to say anything revolutionary, and he said the same thing over and over again (war is hard, we need to support Ukraine regardless of the news we read"). I can't believe the official state information agency of Russian Federation suddenly became the most reliable source for Ukrainian channels two years into the war, but it very much seems so.Ukrainian (!) "War Zone" channel after half hour suddenly found out that the whole article quoting Stoltenberg "isn't as pessimistic as the title suggests", thus only adding to their display of ignorance — not only they make a whole "zrada" (Ukrainian: "betrayal") FUD out of TASS paraphrase of the interview, but they make it exclusively from a clickbait title. 🤦♂️

Apparently the interview with #NATO Stoltenberg is posted here, but it’s just below 5 minutes and while they originally speak English, it’s fully dubbed in German :)https://www.tagesschau.de/multimedia/video/video-1279144.html

@kravietz TASS propagandists are paid to do this.shame to ARD to do not promptly traslate it into English.

@elCelio Exactly, I don’t blame Russian channels, it’s their job… I’m more surprised by stupidity of Ukrainian channels who seem to jump at this, effectively spreading 100% Russian disinformation.

@elCelio I’ve just downloaded the video and running whisper on it right now, so hopefully I’ll be able to post the English text in a moment.

@kravietz well, it's for a German audience. And they have to make sure that everybody understands what is said. Not the average person, but everybody. Even illiterate people.

@t_mkdf Yeah, I can’t complain about the German dubbing, just frustrated about me forgetting whatever German I’ve been learning at school :)

@kravietz I suppose the dubbing makes it perfect for fake news. Because nobody really knows what was said.

@t_mkdf Russian media do this all the time, I remember many such cases on Russian TV when they reported declarations of Western or Ukrainian politicians I knew in original, and the dubbing was completely unrelated. But would ARD do this here?

@kravietz Ukranian channels shift blame.Which is stupid considering that Stoltenberg has always been a staunch pro-Ukrainian.It'a worrying because it seems that the urge of shifting blame is becoming more important than keeping friends.

@kravietz journalism in Ukraine is dead. I mean, it was not even born. I was working a bit with TV reporters and most of them were not able to just repeat what I've said them. There's no "school" or tradition for local journalism, everything is on the very poor levelIt's just easier to translate ru-sources than English or German. That's why it's so

@UT3UMS I wouldn’t extend that to all journalism in Ukraine. There’s plenty of good journalism from Kyiv Post, then Independent and many other news agencies. Gordon, Butusov and Kazansky do actual journalist work, even if sometimes controversial (Gordon’s interview with Girkin). Telegram channels that are only present on Telegram are probably the lowest form of journalism, but there’s still some that post original content, like the channels from specific brigades. Others merely work as aggregators and there’s a fierce competition between them, “War Zone” is clearly one of them and the main reason for my disappointment is that they seem to be degrading.

@kravietz Kyiv Post is good indeed. They could have teach others some skill, but it's very fresh. Gordon is just a clown who thinks of himself as of Spider Jerusalem 😅
