@mhoye I don’t fully understand all this but it sounds like the scene in Hitchhiker’s Guide where they had a finite improbability drive, but couldn’t work out an infinite improbability drive, until someone put the probability of having an infinite drive into the finite drive and it just appeared. Then everyone strung up the guy that did it for being a smartass.

@futurebird @lisamelton this is it exactly. In the late Obama years it fit right in with the feeling that the “American experiment” was messy and difficult, but maybe somehow working. Then the Trump years happened and now it’s impossible to watch Hamilton without rolling your eyes so hard you might injure yourself. It soured incredibly quickly when it became clear that Obama’s years weren’t turning a new page, but a pause in the reactionary tide that’d been rising against the Civil Rights movement for 60 years.
