       Holy _shit_ this paper, and the insight behind it. You know how every receiver is also a transmitter, _well_: every text predictor is also text compressor, and vice-versa.        @mhoye I don’t fully understand all this but it sounds like the scene in Hitchhiker’s Guide where they had a finite improbability drive, but couldn’t work out an infinite improbability drive, until someone put the probability of having an infinite drive into the finite drive and it just appeared. Then everyone strung up the guy that did it for being a smartass.

       @spherulitic @mhoye With a bit of luck, AI cannibalism will finish the little buggers off before they get anywhere near to a singularity. Given that laziness and greed trump everything else, AI will increasingly be trained on AI-generated data, because it’s easier and cheaper. This will lead to an exponential growth of bullshit, iterating them away into infinite stupidity — i.e. the opposite of Weizenbaum’s singularity.
