@tek i haven't watched this because IDGAF about apple but if any phone company **actually** cared about reducing waste then they'd support devices for longer than a few years and wouldn't use software updates to coax you into constantly replacing it with a new one.What do people actually do on their iphones that could not feasibly have been done on the one they had a decade ago?

do people still use linkedin?i deleted mine about five years ago because none of the recruiters who contacted me through linkedin ever bothered to read my resume beforehand, not even the ones who were cold-contacting me.I'd get these really enthusiastic copy-pasted messages about how they think i'd be perfect for $POSITION at $COMPANY, which was usually some high-level webshit. i'd respond and they'd set up a phone call and then immediately tell me im not qualified.

for context, ive never done any high-level webshit programming in my entire life, i've always been a low-level kernel/device driver programmer and to a lesser extent i have some experience with 3D graphics and compilers.but back in 2016 i was getting frustrated with lack of career advancement at my employer so i was willing to try out a different role even if it meant learning a lot of new things which is why i wasted so much time on this idiotic linkedin recruiter spam.

i just started reading "Snow Crash" by Neal Stephenson for the second time. the first time i read it was way back in 2014 so i only vaguely remember the basic premise of information viruses and the oddly anticlimactic ending.anyways i'm still salty that the word "metaverse" has forever been tainted by Cuckerberg's bad Second Life clone and the news coverage back in 2021 hardly ever mentioned the book so most people don't even know where it comes from.

there's something really wrong with people's mindsets when they're amazed that my 10 year-old laptop can perform most daily computing tasks. Like they expect that it won't be able to stream video or something even though they know this laptop could stream video back in 2013...the only task it's not well-suited for is gaming (no vulkan support is annoying tbh) but even then there are so many new pixel games and low-poly games getting made that can easily run on 10 or even 20 year old hardware.

huh it looks like my router, which was supplied by my ISP has an open ftp port but my admin account on the router doesn't have perms to read any directories. That's not suspicious at all.its probably just for firmware updates but it seems anybody the login can potentially do anything they want to my router without my knowledge. Even if all they can do is overwrite the firmware that still gives them ability to add a backdoor.Also i checked, the port is open to the internet not just the LAN

1700 year old Roman penny i got on Amazon for about $20. It is from the reign of emperor Constantine, who was the first Christian emperor and namesake of ConstantinopleI can't vouch for its authenticity but other people who purchased the same coin got coins with varying degrees of erosion, which IMO establishes that they're real since fakes would be largely identical.Also I'm told 4th century Roman bronzes like this are rarely counterfeited because they're abundant and nearly worthless.
