@thelinuxcast My reasoning is that Apple removed it for further space saving SoC-esque integration on the board; resulting in a sleeker overall form factor.I reckon this can potentially be abused since there's no more ring-fencing (your eSIM is always active, and cannot escape the kernel and networking stack). Not a HW expert, so I could be wrong. But, I'm sure it won't be used for surveillance or signals intelligence by telcos and three-letter agencies in any way, shape, or form either. /s

@privacyint I understand the gist of the article, but identity is far more nuanced.Identities serve as primary keys where data is concerned, and this is vitally important for Authentication > Authorization flows, not just for security (pre-validation) but also for provenance (post-validation).Exclusion, insecurity, and surveillance are issues I'll grant you that; but are more issues of policy than with identity systems themselves, e.g. Terms of Service and Authoritarian States.

@textovervideo These two overused complimentary colors from what I've read are pleasing to the eye, and give contextual as well as visual contrast for the subject matter. It's even more pronounced on movie posters as well.https://colormetrix.com/blog/oranges-blues-prevalent-movie-industry/https://priceonomics.com/why-every-movie-looks-sort-of-orange-and-blue/

@kzimmermann Interestingly (and since I use it a lot), Tumblr's reblog functionality supercharges this and allows for implied context within the content of whatever imagery is reblogged. This leads to the building of an "aesthetic", and a sort of signalling of endorsement without saying so explicitly; the driving force behind user engagement on Tumblr IMHO.I voted YES, because otherwise why would one propagate a memetic artifact that is disassociative?

@CyborgZeta Unpopular opinion but, the best Linux distro is the one that offers the most functionality right out of the box.If measured using such a Get Shit Doneā„¢ metric, Ubuntu is still unsurpassed.

@xgqt It's a common pattern in UNIX-like operating systems for applications to store their configs in a dotfolder (or a single dotfile) within the user's home directory. If anything, it's a POSIX best-practice and requires no assumptions about the distro, existing directories, permissions, etc.

@kzimmermann If cherry-picking based on subjective bias is the name of the game, then any company can be "evil" according to that criteria.Either way, I'm just going to leave this here: https://builtwith.com/?https%3a%2f%2fslate.com

@Mehrad @devSJR Yep that's true.I fired up some GET requests on my own account using VSCode + Thunder Client and it works well, so looping/saving JSON for toots should be easy using NodeJS.You can then POST to the instance API endpoint with the data to create toots, but of course timestamps are written to the DB server-side; so unless you update PostgreSQL tables directly (dump/restore) it's not possible to backdate toots via API, using the `created_at` parameter.https://docs.joinmastodon.org/methods/statuses/

@futureisfoss And yet this is an example of the greatest flaw of Federation: in that defederation is tantamount to censorship by any other name.Decentralization is the ideal: where the user chooses what to view or block, not a gatekeeping admin making that choice for them. The Fediverse is feudal at its core, and I'm not sure how evenly this problem is spread between ActivityPub (the protocol) and instance admins (the people).Protocols > People? People > Protocols? I choose the former.

@fosserytech Hilarious, but losing precision in floating point arithmetic is an issue with all languages not just JavaScript. There are Binary Coded Decimals but that's a rabbit hole you don't want to go down...A workaround is to shift the decimal places to be able to use integer arithmetic, and then readjust to get your answer as a float.
