If I post an image or another content that I'm not the creator of (but I have permission to do so) somewhere on the internet, does this mean I endorse the content / context that it contains?(question intentionally vague to allow further discussion: please do elaborate!)#poll

@kzimmermann Unless explicitly stating that you don't, sharing is usually interpreted as agreement, if not endorsement.

@kzimmermann I would say yes, unless the context of your reposting says otherwise.

@kzimmermann yes, unless you state otherwise, e.g. using it as a bad example for something ("look at this horrible thing").

@kzimmermann not necessarily, sometimes I retoot or post Big Tech news about some new shady feature/device. Even if the linked article shows the thing as something good, I'm sure that anyone following me will know that I'm against it.If someone reads that post out of context and without knowing me, it's possible that they'll think that I'm endorsing the new Big Tech's product tho.

@werwolf good point. Guess providing commentary, or at least context, should be enough to clarify most things eh

@kzimmermann Interestingly (and since I use it a lot), Tumblr's reblog functionality supercharges this and allows for implied context within the content of whatever imagery is reblogged. This leads to the building of an "aesthetic", and a sort of signalling of endorsement without saying so explicitly; the driving force behind user engagement on Tumblr IMHO.I voted YES, because otherwise why would one propagate a memetic artifact that is disassociative?
