@lightweight the small company I work for is in the process of migrating their ERP. And, you guessed it: they've taken the cloud option. No data will be kept in-house. They're so blinded by the short term benefits it's maddening. I feel like I'm screaming at the top of my lungs and nobody's listening.

@lightweight Unfortunately we're not in IT, and too small to manage the core infrastructure in-house. We deal with an IT vendor, full MS shop obviously. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈOut of all the techs I've spoken with on the phone for support, I doubt anyone of them knows more than me about Linux (I kid you not some have probably never heard of it). And I'm not even very knowledgeable, apart from using it at home.

@urusan @alilly I created an antihero/superhero wannabe comic character back when I was drawing comics (for myself) in my teens. Sadly I was using perforated sheets of paper my dad was bringing from his workplace with bunches of numbers printed on the other side. Oh well, it's too dumb and badly drawn to show off anyway! πŸ˜… I was planning a face-off with Batman... Sadly it never happened πŸ˜‚

@nicemicro @danso Unfortunately, the filthy rich will always be able to own cars no matter how expensive operating them becomes. We'd go back 120 years when only the very wealthy owned cars. We need to find a solution that leaves no loophole for the rich.

@toddo @TonyStark @demvoter I read a columnist last week who wrote she attended a lecture from Noam Chomsky at MIT in 2013. Even back then, he was saying the Republicans weren't a political party anymore, but rather a radical insurrection. He was apparently quoting two researchers, Norman J. Ornstein and Thomas E. Mann. Not linking the column here because it's in French.

@toddo @TonyStark @demvoter very well, here it is, but it's just a column from a local newspaper here.https://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/chroniques/2022-11-08/un-parti-d-insurges-avec-ou-sans-trump.php

@stux the only word I disagree with in your toot is your last. You have nothing to be sorry for. That this event will have any news or tv coverage is a disgrace. That's it's happening there in the first place is a crime against humanity.

@linmob I fear that the UBports devs will always be playing catch up. They're still working on migrating to 20.04 which is nearly 3 years old... πŸ˜•

@ahoneybun @linmob the point I was trying to make is, when they're ready to jump to 24.04, the Ubuntu 28.04 release will be in sight. We're 14 months away from 14.04, and 26 months from 20.04 EOL. This pace doesn't seem sustainable to me in the long run.

@linmob @ahoneybun TBH the only thing I still care about in UBports is Lomiri. The whole OS' tech choices aren't for me. But a Debian or pmOS with Lomiri, now we're talking. (I did read that Lomiri had made it into Debian). Provided I can install flatpaks, or any package from the repos.(Also, not being a dev, not having what it takes to become one...)

@linmob look, I'm gonna have to repeat it again, I'm sure I told you in the past: I was very involved in an open source community for 9 years. I had multiple roles, forum, wiki and bug tracker admin, I posted thousands of help messages. I even did PPA packaging, I spent countless hours, easily 20hrs a week if not more. I burned out. Even nearly 4 years later, I don't feel like getting back on the saddle. And I feel that I gave much more than many FOSS users ever will. So that's that.

@linmob being realistic is not talking down.I don't see how the UBports people can improve their prospects. They admitted they were struggling to get contributors, I admit that was a while ago so things may have changed. But due to Canonical's core decisions for Ubuntu Touch, and UBports staying the course, it's not a typical Linux distro, with unusual restrictions. I'm guessing potential devs prefer to contribute to more traditional distros.

@damovisa > Just say June. It's cold here then."How cold does it get? Sorry, but unless it goes below -20°C, it's just a little chilly! 😜Right now the ground here is covered by at least 1 meter (3 feet) of snow, and that's about the definition of winter. The end of it actually, with above freezing temps during the day that have started to melt the snow. Hoping we get one more month before we see the ground! 😁
