Accidents and pollution are making road vehicles untenable. With public transport and ride-sharing, their demise can’t come soon enoughhttps://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/aug/30/car-is-king-accidents-pollution-road-vehicles-public-transport

@danso I hope you were right. I think if we started forcing car owners to actually pay for all the inconvenience the car infrastructure is caused for everyone else, owning cars would already be prohibitively expensive for most. But unfortunately, we still haven't reached the point when one has to be financially and legally responsible for the negative externalities their choices cause.

@nicemicro @danso Unfortunately, the filthy rich will always be able to own cars no matter how expensive operating them becomes. We'd go back 120 years when only the very wealthy owned cars. We need to find a solution that leaves no loophole for the rich.

@normandc @danso Frankly, I wouldn't care, if the super rich (like 1% of the population) owned cars, that would already make things 100x better. And if society was organized that you can do everything conveniently without having a car, it would not matter at all if only a few people has cars.FWIW, if the filthy rich lived in a suburb with their cars and would pay for everything from their own pocket, I wouldn't care at all.
