@ericbuijs @pocketvj I agree, the screen is quite small. But the Edge 1030 Plus with the biggest screen is just too expensive (nearly $900 CAD).I used it for the first time yesterday on a 53 km ride. I had it navigate to a destination, then I went further and checked up on the map occasionally. It's not easy browsing a map with buttons, I'm almost regretting not going with the touchscreen model (which was $130 CAD more). I ended up getting my phone out a few times. But the screen size is fine for turn-by-turn navigation. It worked OK, although you don't get to refine the course - or I haven't found how. For now, it looks like it will do what I need it to, and my phone will just be a backup.There are preset profiles, for road, urban, gravel. In theory, the navigation feature may give me gravel paths and roads with this profile, it will be interesting to find out.In any case, being able to manage the device with a Linux PC was a must for me. As soon as I go back to the office for good, the Windows PC is getting out of the house! 😁

@ericbuijs @pocketvj I noticed that the maps on my #Garmin Edge 530 were dated 2019, and the Garmin Connect Android app didn't offer to update them (I updated the firmware through it). I bit the bullet, as I currently have a Windows PC at home (employer owned CAD workstation), so tonight I installed Garmin Express and updated the maps. I find it silly to not be able to do it with the mobile app.My Edge saves routes in FIT format. I found #GPXsee, an open source Linux map viewer that can import gpx and FIT files (and a few others). Unfortunately it cannot export them to gpx. But I found a Python library that apparently does, I'll test it out soon.Garmin Express has been known to install successfully on Linux with Wine, although the latest entry on the WineHQ db reported failure. Somerhing to look into in the long run. Worst case is I keep the device as is.

@alrs With "Allez" stenciled on the frame, surely this bike must go fast. 😄You seem to be all about oldie steel frame bikes? They really look cool. I love the blue on this one.

@ericbuijs @lps yesterday I tried to do a search on piped.kavin.rocks (on my Pinephone) and the blasted search bar was not registering my carriage return, and there is no button besides it.I reverted to Invidious (same instance), no issue whatsoever.Each time I try Piped, I have one issue or the other.I do not feel the love for Piped. 🙄

@faidit @radis_noir J'ai longtemps aimé les autos, rêvant de posséder un jour une voiture ancienne, ou la sportive du moment, hors d'atteinte pour mon budget. Plus jeune j'ai rêvé d'être styliste automobile...Mais au point où on en est rendu, et pour tellement de raisons, il faut absolument une remise en question de l'automobile. J'ai brisé mon lien émotionnel avec l'automobile et je ne m'en porte pas plus mal.J'ai tellement plus de plaisir sur un vélo que je n'en ai jamais eu au volant d'une wouature...Cette semaine, j'ai été choqué que le propriétaire de la boîte pour laquelle je travaille (une personne éminemment sympathique, facile d'approche, vraiment le meilleur patron que j'aie eu*) vienne me montrer, tout content, les photos d'un après-midi à essayer des bolides de plus de 600 chevaux - sur invitation de son concessionnaire automobile.🤦♀️* Ici au Québec, la hiérarchie est généralement beaucoup moins prononcée qu'en Europe, et les employés d'usine comme de bureau fraternisent avec les patrons, qu'ils/elles tutoient.

A few days ago, I finally flashed my #Pinephone with Biktorgj's open source EG25 Quectel modem firmware.Tonight I discovered from reading the docs that I could use Chatty (Phosh's chat app) to send commands to the modem. I've been texting it and testing scheduled reminders. I get voice calls from it, lol.Who needs chatGPT? 😜

@M4x thanks. But I'm still burned out on doing CAD in my pastime. I do it for a living, 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I barely ever boot my home PC anymore. It's still running Ubuntu 18.04! 😱 But I have a real life(R) issue on my bicycle and I'll need to design and 3D print some kind of bracket for my new dynamo light.After 5 years away, I expect I'll have some learning curve. 😅

Je n'ai pas encore pris la peine de désactiver le tracking du GPS par les applis Google sur mon mouchard Android.En partie parce que ce genre de truc me fait marrer.Chronologie d'avril 2024 de Google Maps : j'ai roulé 438 km à vélo contre 267 km en bagnole. 😄 Édition : Google se trompe, c'est plutôt 524 km à vélo (total selon RideWithGPS)🚴 > 🚗
