@voidspace @flancian https://wordpress.org/plugins/activitypub/ works pretty well - it turns your blog in to its own ActivityPub actor though, so it wouldn't be linked to your current voidspace@mastodon.org.uk account. To post directly to my existing Mastodon account I currently use https://brid.gy/ - but only because I do it via my IndieWeb setup (which is not necessary)I used to use a plugin which was more of a straight crossposter, I forget the name but it worked well enough to post to existing acc

I’m reading Half-Earth Socialism at the moment. An eco-socialist take that goes hard in on rewilding, veganism, renewables, and, intriguingly, global central planning. ("GosplanT" :D)It’s good stuff.Plus I think all Verso books should come bundled with a playable online simulation game like this one does…https://play.half.earth/

Open Infrastructure Map is absolutely fascinating. Check out all the power stations, turbines, electricity lines, gas, oil, water pipelines, etc near you. Built on top of Open Street Map data (what an amazing project OSM is).https://openinframap.org/

Some more #introduction.I work for a charity in the UK called The Restart Project (https://therestartproject.org). We help people learn how to #repair their broken things; we get stuck in with organising community repair activities and supporting independent repair businesses; and we campaign for the #RightToRepair.I also volunteer at my local #RepairCafe, fixing IT equipment.

This is new... 'Google Safe Browsing' has decided that my installation of #YunoHost, that only I use, is a Deceptive Site.Apparently this is a thing now and has also affected some Mastodon instances, because similar authentication pages on lots of different IP addresses is considered a phishing botnet...https://forum.yunohost.org/t/google-flags-my-sites-as-dangerous-deceptive-site-ahead/20361/106

Learning a bit about guild socialism through reading Platform Socialism. It sounds good. Good healthy dollops of municipalism and subsidiarity.

@jaxter184 I'm reading the book 'Platform Socialism' which has a chapter that discusses it. I have some notes here: https://anagora.org/guild-socialismAs to what the 'guild' in it means: "In Cole’s theory, guilds were democratic associations based on the unit of the workplace or factory and extended to larger guilds of industries."

Re-read [[Radical Technologies]] by @adamgreenfield and it remains an absolute banger.Thorough critique of the technologies you see bandied around as part of the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’ – smartphones, IoT, AR/VR, blockchain, digital fabrication, automation, ML/AI.Fair, but mostly damning. And still right on point 5 years since publication. The last two chapters on the Stacks, possible futures and tactics are gold.Last but not least, it’s gorgeously written.

Amazon workers in Coventry vote to go on strike in the new year. They were classed as key workers during the pandemic… but are treated like robots for low pay. Amazon has plenty money to go around.> This time the turnout was 63%, with 98% of those backing strike action, marking the first time Amazon workers in the UK have voted to do so.#Amazonhttps://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/dec/16/amazon-workers-vote-strike-coventry-depot-uk-first

Knee-deep in papers on ICT4S – ‘ICT for Sustainability’. Usually well-intentioned, but often of a ‘tech will save us’ bent, missing any political analysis or question of how we got here. Case in point: the suggestion of ‘bayesian networks to discover supply chains using child labour’. Great. But better to transition to a system that doesn’t have exploitation of humans and nature as an ineluctable part of how it functions, no?

@ntnsndr Do you write your papers in Emacs? I love writing in Emacs too but had to break out into LyX for writing something more academic. My head seemed more in it in LyX, for some reason... maybe just more familiarity with bib files, citations, the pdf formatting dance, etc.

Immensely proud of this #project.https://openrepair.org/news/open-repair-alliance-dataset-increases-to-81000-records-of-community-repair/@zenlan and me have been plugging away at this for years now at @restartproject.Defining a standard for community repair data, i.e. the kind of stuff you log at a #RepairCafe, coordinating the pooling of data collected by lots of different partners, wrangling it all together and releasing it as one big #OpenData set.

I have been reading [[Thinking in Systems]] a little the last week and absolutely loving it.The stock and flow diagrams are a fun way to think about things. Reminded me that I used to enjoy graph theory back in the day, in no small part because l just liked drawing out little pictures of nodes and edges.

@adamgreenfield Yes! You mentioned convivial stacks before and your concern about the appeal of that particular framing. But it definitely appeals to me.I'd like to participate in these conversations. I'm currently writing something around 'reclaiming the stacks' / ecosocialist ICT, and reviewing existing tilts in this direction.Very much work in progress, but gives an idea - https://commonplace.doubleloop.net/reclaiming-the-stacks-ecosocialism-and-ict
