It's always wild how many outright racists see my straight laced doc boots, tattoos, and suspenders and think "here's a person who will appreciate my racist opinion on this" and then act absolutely surprised when I tell them to fuck off with their racist bullshit.

@strypey easier with kids and youth, usually funded and occasionally just requires the primary care provider to send a request through to the paediatrician/psychiatrist, but much trickier with adults.

@dznz @strypey I did an online training recently from Goodfellows Unit on medical certificates, the majority of the content was focused on the supposed negative impacts of off work medical certificates. I know work and income employees a specific doctor who calls up GPs and encourages them to reconsider signing off on a med cert. It's obscene.

Seems to be a big influx of #NZTwits today in particular. Like starting a new job, I suggest taking some time to absorb the vibe of this place a bit. We're here not to replicate twitter but to do something that meets some of the same needs in a different way.

My mum arrived back from a 2 month visit with family back in Canada. We've got a big family there, I've got like 40+ cousins/second cousins etc. Hearing stories of family from my mum definitely made that distance between NZ and Canada feel light-years apart. Not being around for the good times and tough times is a kind of loss I reckon.

@smollestbunny Turns out one of my cousins, who flies planes to northern Canadian communities had to emergency land/crash and it took a few days to locate him!

@hilarymcam I've had young folk from similar defense force camps end up in my clinic because the constant yelling triggered PTSD from serious abuse at home. These camps are not only not evidence based, they're actively harmful.
