@picofarad Looks like you have an 86C, rather than an 860. A quick google suggests that manuals are not available for free (one site claims it is available if you pay) but the good news is that removing the bolt is probably the only disassembly you want to do anyway, other than just removing the stock if you need to clean under the wood.Aerosol RemOIl is perfect for these old girls - no need to disassemble when you can just hose the mechanism down to clean and lube.

@j @Turkleton I have some fairly serious health issues, and weed is pretty much my front-line intervention for managing symptoms.I think it's important to point out that weed hits all of us differently, and sometimes it works great, for people and sometimes it does not. People argue endlessly over this because their own experiences are so different.

@PNS Absolutely. If he looks like that, and holds that job, he must be great at it.

@picofarad desiccants fail when they become saturated. if humidity can enter, saturation is just a matter of timeit might buy enough time, if you expect the power to come back on, and if you expect the desiccant to dry out as a result, so it is ready for the next event

@DaddyO Broadly speaking, all categories are arbitrary; they exist to serve a purpose. You can organize your record collection by edge color, or smell, or by the average height of the band, but it won't assist the purpose of finding the album you want when you want it.We can invent as many races as we want, or as few. Decide the purpose first, and the rest follows.

@DaddyO The empirical differences are there, what's arbitrary is the significance.Hair color is mostly heritable - blondes and redheads can be different races, if you want. We could group people by genetic similarly, or by similar appearance, or by similar ancestry, it's just a matter of what we'd hope to accomplish by grouping them that way.

@picofarad My only personal experience is with gun safes. When the power is on, just a couple degrees differential is enough to keep things dry. An old-school 2.5 watt incandescent night light was plenty, but they burned out often. A 'goldenrod' is a purpose-built dehumidifier that works better, basically just a tiny heater. When the power is out, desiccants work great for a while, then they need attention. Personally, my attention is unreliable and I plan accordingly.

@EscapeVelo pro tip - the cap lifter was added just after WWII, making it easy to date them at a glance

@cjd @nomebullyyou @Stahesh that's the thing - being unenlightened, even to the point of overt mental illness, can result in tremendous material gain. not just wealth, but status, accomplishment, an ego that believes itself worthy or even greatits arguably a net loss for the person doing it, but the material gains can help millions. they can also harm millions, too

@EscapeVelo For my use case, something like 1095 is actually preferable to the more modern stuffI have a little crossed-ceramic-rod sharpener, and a kitchen knife with good geometry made of mediocre stainless. The softish steel regains a keen edge very quickly when touched up on the rods. I put in just a slight effort and my knife is like a razor all the time. I think I only properly sharpened it once, when I first bought it

@neanderthalsnavel when i was a kid in the 70s, my teachers were maybe 50-50 male/female. the math and science teachers were usually male, the english teachers almost always women, the civics teachers could go either way

@neanderthalsnavel wowi kind of have this idea that the sort of men who would be motivated to become teachers are not the sort of men who be comfortable in a mostly-female profession. Once women start to dominate, they quickly dominate a lot.
