if you have a water loop inside of a sealed box to keep ambient temps down, would *just* desiccant work to prevent condensation?one of the *huge* issues in the deep south is IP ratings of stuff like IP67 which should withstand essentially a water jet aimed at the seal, but somehow, if a device that is IP67 rated loses power for a few days when it's ~60F at night and 80F in the day - this device will die from water inside the case. humidity gets in at night because of the vacuum created

@picofarad desiccants fail when they become saturated. if humidity can enter, saturation is just a matter of timeit might buy enough time, if you expect the power to come back on, and if you expect the desiccant to dry out as a result, so it is ready for the next event

@mikejackmin i'm imagining a situation where i don't forget to check the desiccant every month or so, and swap it out with fresh, and dry out the existing. The stuff i have is orange pellets, they change color and can be oven dried, or microwave (but i wouldn't do that).I have quite a few things i want to put underground for both RF shielding and temps.

@picofarad My only personal experience is with gun safes. When the power is on, just a couple degrees differential is enough to keep things dry. An old-school 2.5 watt incandescent night light was plenty, but they burned out often. A 'goldenrod' is a purpose-built dehumidifier that works better, basically just a tiny heater. When the power is out, desiccants work great for a while, then they need attention. Personally, my attention is unreliable and I plan accordingly.

@mikejackmin my FIL had a can of damprid disintegrate in his gun safe, he had to file a homeowner's claim because of the amount of oxidative damage to the guns inside.now that you mention it...might be better to have a battery that can power a small heat source and a loud klaxon.
