@brandon Ah PDF... Ok in that case, then you could use Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, etc. I don’t know if that other Publisher I linked makes PDFs, but there’s a free trial.Designing stuff in Word is a royal pain in the ass, but some enjoy pain and punishment which might work out for you. 🤷♂️ Otherwise that’s all I got.

@brandon By definition it is controversial. Because there’s a group of people who would disagree.Philosophers like Alan Watts would say that such labels serve the ego and are not a reflection of one’s true nature.Even Thich Nhat Hanh would say that all that labeling isn’t important.

@ohyran It’s only been about 5 years now since a law in the state of Illinois, U.S.A. was passed to allow same sex marriage.Interestingly (but not surprising) in another state a few years ago, there was a court clerk who refused to issue a marriage certificate to a gay couple based on her own religious reasons. She argued something about the law discriminating against her rights. 🙄

@szbalint We’re now wasting our time instance blocking apps? Better add those all those browsers to the list too...

@ataraxia937 I used to only do updates via my desktop that would go to sync.com From there I would pull updates from sync. Now I just use Bitwarden.

@onepict The internet is decentralized, it's the laws that dictate how it's ran.

@onepict There's also the EU setting laws, China's Great Firewall, etc.I suppose if you really wanted to bypass "the internet", you could do it via wireless transmissions over an antenna, but again you run into FCC laws about transmitting on what frequencies, how much power you can use, etc.

@onepict Ok, I'll focus the conversation on the U.S.A.It's more complicated than the FCC proposal to manage social media. You have social media sites that set rules based on what they want or don't want censored.Hosting services have rules on what you can and not do. Some allow more freedom (Linode) others do not (inmotion hosting).Even @Mastodon has proved that it's not really a de-centralized network. Actually, it promotes a very centralized philosophy.

@thehatter @ataraxia937 Matt makes a good point. If the account is compromised by say, a DB hack/leak 2fa might be the saving grace.

@mookie I support BN whenever I can. Generally now I either grab books from the Library or Half-Price Books.

@iah Domain name registrars only do anything DNS related if you’re hosting with them too since name registration and DNS are kind of different things.

@louwestin @iah with that said if you really want to get fancy with DNS then you could run your own DNS server. For domain registration I use Porkbun.com and linode.com for hosting. They offer DNS management, but you can do something different like I mentioned.

@szbalint @tga The app itself can’t go against the instance admins. It’s these “white supremacists” that would be and that’s why there’s a terms of service to begin with. 🙄

@kasun What I can’t understand is the argument against having individual freedom and choice. If you don’t like something you see, there’s block options. If I’m administering a server, I don’t want a hundred email requests from people crying about seeing something on another a server that they didn’t like and they want me to implement blocks. Click the block button yourself and be done with it!

@fedilab Mmm... if you have to restart Apache automatically because of it crashing, there’s something going wrong. It could be that it’s running out of memory (hence a server memory upgrade is required), not configured correctly, unstable/newer version, or something is making it crash.

@nuts Like I’ve said before, it’s a waste of time that could be better spent doing something else.Firefox is open sourced so IF Firefox did that, that would only cause people to fork it like others have done to a few Mastodon apps.@szbalint
