Keepass (any version) on Linux users: How do you handle the syncing to multiple devices? Syncthing? Doesn't it confuse the software when the file changes underneath it? Doesn't it bug you not to have a copy in the cloud (= safely offsite)?Additionally, does anybody have a good experience using keepass on ChromeOS? Support seems lacking there.

@ataraxia937 I used to only do updates via my desktop that would go to sync.com From there I would pull updates from sync. Now I just use Bitwarden.

@louwestin I too actually use Bitwarden. But I like to keep my options open. And the syncing / backup were my least favorite parts of Keepass.

@ataraxia937 I use NextCloudIt seems to handle things pretty well. I find that it's difficult to manage P2P file sync with "often modified" things, especially with a lack of "manual sync" buttons and without having an always on machine to act as a relay.I had trouble syncing between laptop and desktop because when one was on the other was off

@brandon You mean you're using NextCloud's drive storage? (Or something like Passman?) How are you mounting NextCloud's storage such that Keepass can open directly from it? (GNOME can mount Google Drive, but if I open a file from there in keepassxc, it's read-only).

@ataraxia937 I have the NextCloud desktop client on any of the desktop devices I use (the one directly from NextCloud). Then I open the keepass library from the NextCloud sync folder `/home/$USER/Nextcloud` usuallyOn my Android I use Keepass2Android which allows me to take the file via WebDAV.

@brandon Hmm, I should try out NextCloud on a VPS. All this time, and I've never installed it.

@ataraxia937 tbh, if you're not going to be syncing movies, and large photo libraries (like...500GB large libraries) then I think a small VPS should suffice for most people.Do you already have a VPS provider?

@brandon No, I've so far avoided self-hosting anything. A while back I played with EC2 just to get a fell for it.

@ataraxia937 If you decide to go with DigitalOcean for whatever reason, I'd like it if you used my referral link :)https://m.do.co/c/fa082b6466bfYou don't have to, but I use DO and I've not had any issues with them

@ataraxia937 Glad to hear it :) For transparency's sake (though I'm sure you expected something like this) Once you've spent I think $25 of your own money w/ DigitalOcean I get a $25 credit applied to my account for hosting

@louwestin @ataraxia937 I used to do the same with sync.com, but now I have my own Nextcloud instance. I still keep a backup copy on sync.

@brandon Looks like NextCloud is nontrivial to install and I'm too drunk to do it tonight. I'll try again later.

@ataraxia937 it can be done with Docker, but I'm not sure if you've ventured into that world yet...or want to :P

@brandon Docker and the whole devops scene are foreign to me. I'm definitely an old school Linux guy.

@ninja @ataraxia937 yesss I have a blast "upgrading" these days as it's a simple process that seems to work like magic :p
