@futurebird @tantramar I think anything that enables group chat should be considered social technology. Which includes multirecipient emails and mailing lists.Social media would be when it can be accessed & consumed by uninvolved parties. Forums and such.Social networking is when you have a timeline and follows/followers.And some offerings blur the line. Other offerings turn it into a mutated social toxic waste dump.

@futurebird @tantramar addendum: having an "algorithm" makes it something different than social networking, I feel. It puts a thumb on the scale, undemocratizing it.It's more of a social feeding trough, in that case.

@mattblaze I'm glad that the client I use (Ivory) does *not* pretend it is a DM. Such posts are regular posts, but limited to a scope of "Specific People". Makes it much more clear about what is going on.I wish that Mastodon and Signal had some way to work together to solve E2EE DMs.

@foone I wish it were easier to learn (and specifically, easier to use an rpi to learn) how to make a USB accessory.I have Ideas™. Ideas that will never see the light of day because I can't do them, and I lack the resources to fund someone else to do them.

@futurebird for a recent hobby project, i solo-wrote an entire web app for solving birthdays!I didn't launch it.I was happy with how it turned out, but didn't want to deal with the PII implications of hosting everyone's birthday and contact info. :)
