@tyil @Vivaldi The Mozilla project came out of Netscape. Netscape in many ways came out of NTSC, where the original Mosaic browser was made by Marc Andreessen. Now, unlike Mozilla, we do not get a big paycheck from Google. We get nothing, but we use the Chromium codebase.

This is our take on Crypto. It has not changed. There is a reason why we have not included Crypto in Vivaldi. We are very proud of the features we have added, but we also proud of the "features" we have not added.#Vivaldi #Browser #Crypto #Scam #Politics #Technology #Windows #Macos #Linux #Android #ios https://vivaldi.com/blog/why-vivaldi-will-never-create-thinkcoin/

Great little video by John Oliver about AI. One thing he did not get, however, is that also the comments are likely AI generated...Now you can have a discussion about the usefulness of AI for all kinds of stuff, but to me is is disgusting that Meta is deciding to feed their users this stuff. When it comes to social media, I would think that most people are interested in what their friends have to say or what people they follow have to say. AI generated content is not that.#AI #Technology #Politics #Meta #Facebook #JohnOliver #SocialMedia https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWpg1RmzAbc

It is nice to see Linux growing. The question is why? Microsoft does not make it easy to switch. Is this a result of Microsoft and Apple aggressively sunsetting OS versions and Linux being the way to keep HW working? Or is this just more people realizing that Linux is great? Some other reason?https://www.zdnet.com/article/linux-has-over-6-of-the-desktop-market-yes-you-read-that-right-heres-how/#Windows #Linux #Technology #Macos #Desktop

@michaelharley , a lot of the replies are mentioning that. I think the direction Microsoft is heading with Windows is pissing off a lot of people. For me that would be stuff like online Windows logins, data collection, One Drive, AI and Recall.

I asked Windows 10 users what they were planning to do as Windows 10 stops getting free updates. The answers may surprise you. Only 9% plan to move to Windows 11. 1% plan to pay for updates. 22% want to keep using Windows 10, even without security updates. 61% plan to switch to Linux. 6% plan something else.Obviously this is a survey done here in the Fediverse, but this is quite interesting and could mean more users coming to Linux, which IMHO is a good thing.I just made the switch and I am quite happy with it. At the same time I always look for improvements and issues to resolve. It is kind of in my blood.#Windows #Microsoft #Linux #AI

It seems like most every other browser is all in on AI. We have chosen a different path at @Vivaldi If you would prefer AI not to be integrated into your browser, but still like a feature rich browser, I welcome you to try Vivaldi.https://vivaldi.com/blog/keep-exploring/#vivaldi #AI #LLM #browser #firefox #Mozilla #Linux #windows #Macos

The focus for us at @Vivaldi has always been to do what our users want us to do. So we have spent time on things like:- Work spaces and tab stacks- Tab tiling- Mouse gestures- Customizable keyboard shortcuts- Tracker and ad blocker- Panels and Web panels- Cross platform, encrypted sync function- Advanced bookmarking function with speed dials- Customizable dashboard- Massive customization options in general.- Notes functionalityWe have also added stuff like this in our desktop browser- Mail client. Calendar- Feed reader- Proton VPN integrationNot everyone uses everything we make, but that is also the point. The fact that we listen to special requests is IMHO a feature and not a bug. We value power users as well.On the other hand, we have stayed away from certain things. Things like:- Blockchain / Crypto currencies- AI You can find us on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android and iOS. You can even find us in many cars running Android Automotive. We are not the largest browser company in the world, but we are dedicated and we are growing. More and more are giving us a try. At Vivaldi we continue to make choices that are different from our competitors. We have chosen to not integrate AI or crypto, but instead we integrate a wealth of other features, based on the wishes of our users. We are a European company with most of the team based in Norway and Iceland, a few around Europe and a couple in the US.Our servers are based in Iceland. If you want to get away from Big Tech, maybe give us a try? If you are already using Vivaldi, maybe introduce your friends?Have a nice day!https://vivaldi.com#Vivaldi #Browser #Windows #Macos #Linux #AI #Europa #Technology #EU #UK #Germany #France #Poland #Denmark #Norway #Iceland #Greenland

There was a time when we had better leaders in the US and the Soviet Union. An important meeting was in this house in Reykjavík, Iceland in 1986 between Reagan and Gorbatsjev. This was maybe the beginning of the end of the cold war and also the beginning of the end of the Soviet Union.I think of that meeting every time I drive past this house on the way to work in Iceland.#Politics #Iceland #History https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e9/Hofdi_House_Reykjavik_%28cropped%29.jpg

Interesting article. I guess the problem is about trying to fix the symptoms instead of the actual problem. A big issue is that the algorithms in use by Big Tech social media companies tends to favor content like this. If not, we would all just stop following people that share stuff like this. Instead it is forced on us like a Copilot. The only answer is to ban user profiling and use of said profiling for ad and content selection. #AI #AISlop #SocialMedia https://www.technologyreview.com/2026/02/02/1132068/what-weve-been-getting-wrong-about-ais-truth-crisis/?utm_medium=tr_social&utm_source=threads&utm_campaign=site_visitor.unpaid.engagement

RE: https://ec.social-network.europa.eu/@EUCommission/115962166620353999This is great news. In Iceland and Norway we have been fortunate enough to have plenty of hydro power, so use of oil has been mostly related to cars and ships. Both countries have taking large steps towards EVs, with sales of EVs at 95% in Norway at this time. The goal should be to be as independent from oil as we can be. #EU #Europa #Iceland #Norway #GlobalWarming #Technology #Politics

In January 2022 I wrote this article on Crypto. The point was to explain why we have taken a stand against it. For me that stand was really taken 10 years earlier, as friends wanted me to become involved. At the time I read what I could find and concluded that this was all a scam. My opinion has not changed. Over the years it has become clearer for most that it is a scam that not only increases risk for the economy as a whole, increases global warming and electricity prices, it is even being used to undermine our democracy. #Crypto #Vivaldi #Browser #Windows #Macos #Linux #Politics #EU https://vivaldi.com/blog/why-vivaldi-will-never-create-thinkcoin/
