The focus for us at @Vivaldi has always been to do what our users want us to do. So we have spent time on things like:- Work spaces and tab stacks- Tab tiling- Mouse gestures- Customizable keyboard shortcuts- Tracker and ad blocker- Panels and Web panels- Cross platform, encrypted sync function- Advanced bookmarking function with speed dials- Customizable dashboard- Massive customization options in general.- Notes functionalityWe have also added stuff like this in our desktop browser- Mail client. Calendar- Feed reader- Proton VPN integrationNot everyone uses everything we make, but that is also the point. The fact that we listen to special requests is IMHO a feature and not a bug. We value power users as well.On the other hand, we have stayed away from certain things. Things like:- Blockchain / Crypto currencies- AI You can find us on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android and iOS. You can even find us in many cars running Android Automotive. We are not the largest browser company in the world, but we are dedicated and we are growing. More and more are giving us a try. @js all the changes to the chromium core are open source https://vivaldi.com/source/The proprietary part is their user interface. As a small employee owned company, they choose to protect that asset in order to contain the risk of being put out of business by anyone with deeper pockets. I understand your point and respect your perspective, but I also understand and respect theirs ... .

@WildEnte @js Maybe we should aim for a spin where any browser that needs to be respected should not be used for the sake of the open web.Use #software you don't have to respect: fork it, dismantle it, modify it, adapt it to your needs, just use something you may criticize, mold, inspect, ...Some basic tools should *only* be used in form of free and libre ones: OS, browsers, text processing, password safes, file management, ...You may choose to stick to closed source software for any particular use-case that is not considered a public one.If you're using a browser (engine) that is not a free one, you're part of the group of people who (unwillingly) destroys the #WWW. Like it or not.#FOSS #ClosedSource #standards #PIM #Vivaldi #Chromium #Chrome #Firefox

@publicvoit @js I understand and respect your perspective, but don't come to the same conclusion. While @jon was still CEO of Opera, the Presto rendering engine was not FOSS and still they did a lot to open the web and fight for web standards, and now working for Vivaldi, they still do. The fact that Vivaldi's UI is proprietary is not limiting the openness of the web. The fact that Chromium - which is open source - is pushing everything else aside is a big problem. Well, and the fact that Mozilla is not figuring out how to turn the ship around for years. Vivaldi is not the problem. Like it or not.
