One thing I really dislike in #Mastodon: it's really slow. I constantly have problems loading my feeds or notifications. Is it related to my server? Is using a smaller server recommended?

@fcktheworld587 @hywan It failed to upsell and I think the data collected is not as useful as one thinks. Personally speaking, it's hard to use and has only little benefit. Surprised it didn't fail earlier

@vbuterin Fully agree. I tend to think ppl who don't do the 10-finger system switch to phones/tablets because of the typing support. Ppl who can do the 10-finger system just stay with a keyboard. Me too- nothing faster than a good keyboard and a few shortcuts (shortcuts on phone, think about that)

There is *no* good reason any #opensource team is on Twitter but not on a decentralised, open source solution like #Mastodon, or any other #Fediverse project. Since when would OSS projects care about "reach" instead of doing the right thing. I understand todays OSS is bit different (say: enterprisey) than it once was - but projects should not go where the people are: people in fact go where the projects are.

@jimjag Wow, what a great statement Jim. Reading your emails for a bit, I can imagine a few things too. One serious question: why do you think the OSI does matter?

@jimjag You know that I am mostly involved in the ASF. I agree that a good voice about values on #opensource is essential. But how would the OSI affect the ASF? Or Eclipse? Or the many Github projects, run by small groups? It feels like a voice from the past, who nobody cares about. Please inspire me here; I am not trying to talk down the OSI but to try to understand better why you are still involved in it.

I just joined the @osi as a member. I realized I already follow some important people there, like @jimjag, @webmink, or @josh Not sure how can actively help there, but probably there is some onboarding or some helpful links, somewhere. :) #opensource

Do I have a friend in the US who would like to forward me the @osi pin by snail mail? I would take the costs for the postal service, of course :) OSI is only delivering it to the US, that's why. #opensource

#mastodon is maybe not the best thing we can have. It does not work for everybody. The good thing is, it is #opensource and your data belongs to you. #bluesky and #twitter own your data when you post there. I am willing to use other platforms, but my main will be open and I will try to avoid posting personal things to businesses who want to own my stuff. Lots to learn on the #fediverse and time will make it better.

I had a nice call with @ed about the @osi, and it was enlightening. The OSI plans are good. It is trying to protect #opensource before bad politics and working on scaling education about the value of open source in general. Still, some work is required, but I feel it's in good hands.

@vbuterin Many cultures emphasize the cycle of life and death, and removing death or diminishing its significance could impact their preservation. It raises questions about the fluid nature of culture and the role that loss plays in fostering growth and evolution. While efforts can be made to preserve aspects of culture, not everything can be preserved over time. Impermanence can also be seen as an opportunity for new cultures to emerge. The human experience is a dynamic process.
