IMO, companies and huge foundations with deep pockets don’t need any additional voices in the #opensource ecosystem. Those who do need additional voices, and better representation are the individual contributors that comprise the open source community at large.Whoever you vote for in the #OSI elections for individual seats, make sure they are there for the people. For us.

@jimjag Wow, what a great statement Jim. Reading your emails for a bit, I can imagine a few things too. One serious question: why do you think the OSI does matter?

@grobmeier For me, OSI remains one of the last standing entities that believes in some absolute truths about #opensource, even when there are serious and loud voices calling for changes. Open Source hasn’t succeeded despite the OSD, but because of it.And yet OSI must remain relevant and pragmatic. It must remain involved. OSI matters because open source matters.

@jimjag You know that I am mostly involved in the ASF. I agree that a good voice about values on #opensource is essential. But how would the OSI affect the ASF? Or Eclipse? Or the many Github projects, run by small groups? It feels like a voice from the past, who nobody cares about. Please inspire me here; I am not trying to talk down the OSI but to try to understand better why you are still involved in it.

@grobmeier Data point: OSI presently has a staff member (me) engaging the European Union over the Cyber Resilience Act which seems likely to affect all the projects you mention. I have attended meetings, educated policy officers and co-drafted statements and proposals and remain very actively engaged. I'm obviously biased, but I think people should care that OSI exists because we are speaking up for those developers over the CRA and all the rest of the legislative deluge that has appeared.
