Ever since Clinton beat Bush in 92, corporate Democrats have used that as "proof" that tacking hard to the center to try to pick up "moderate Republican" votes, and that conventional wisdom hasn't changed since.But they never mention that Clinton won a rare three way race with a huge spoiler candidate taking votes from the Republican. That election should be taken as an outlier, it seems to me. Meanwhile the dems have been systematically abandoning their old base, thinking they have no choice.

The term web3 is so poisonous to me that I tune out whenever anyone says it. Proponents will say it's not all crypto but any other use case that falls within, I'm just left thinking either "this is what they said crypto specifically would do" or "this sounds like the stuff folks were saying the world wide web would do, in 1995."I think the web peaked with bit torrent, and capital responded by trying to crush it, but people keep trying to introduce baroque versions of it again, but worse.

To be clear I'm mostly talking about the word itself. I have no doubt that there's people who like the idea for non scam reasons, I just wonder what the utility is of the term. There's not really even a web1 or web2.0, it was always marketing.

@tek do they do it by size of pill? I would have figured they'd prescribe by dose and the pharmacist could make it happen however.That seems so weird that it required a separate call.

@freemo I think there's a distinction between the democrats and the left.Democrats tend to go ride or die for him but most people who I know that are on the self described left are far to the left of the dems and no one likes him. I live in a bubble of course.

Even those who don't believe in the two party system which I think is most people, know we live in a first past the post system so the reality is it's the dems or it's trump.If you say you don't vote for either of them because you've been voting for dems all your life and things just keep getting worse and the dems just keep chasing the same centrists who can't make up their minds between the republicans and them while abandoning the left, you're looked at as unserious.

@Axomamma @TheConversationUS I think the distinction is between anti homelessness policies, and anti homeless policies; the latter are what we get, the former are what we need. Not hostile architecture to chase them away, but to make it harder to end up on the streets in the first place by providing housing.

@foone i could see a valid use case for these, namely if you need to charge your device and you don't trust what you're plugging in to (airport USB wall chargers, for example). but they should be very explicitly labeled.

@simonwood @Edent yeah, same. I had told my bank I intended to travel internationally and then when I got there my card stopped working and they called me saying there was suspected fraud on my card. I knew it was legit because I called back on the number on my card, but I think it's bad practice to initiate calls.
