@foone i could see a valid use case for these, namely if you need to charge your device and you don't trust what you're plugging in to (airport USB wall chargers, for example). but they should be very explicitly labeled.

@foone To be fair, I could use that one, so I can franken-cable it into powering a PiKVM (because of *course* the only USB port on a Pi capable of being plugged into another computer to have it forward your actual keyboard strokes is the same one that powers the thing).

@foone I would tolerate it if the spec said that power only cables had to have visual and tactile indicators as such. Something like a red inlaid stripe on the ends.

@foone they explicitly forbade all but A-plug-to-some-sort-of-B-plug cables (specifically not A-plug-to-A-receptacle), and i know that didn't work because we have crap that needs an A-plug-to-A-plug cable to go to the A-receptacle-to-A-receptacle panel feedthrough.

@foone what pisses me off is the weird devices I have that require a charge only USB cable to charge. If they see a data capable cable, they won't charge. Now who said that was an OK thing to do?!
