@4bz @tek I agree. That's why I'm in support of the protests in France right now, for example.If your violence can prevent immediate harm for yourself, it's perfectly legit to use it. When people talk about punching people they disagree with, that's different.If that person is actively and directly encouraging others to harm you, violence towards that person is legit as well.

@4bz @tek I've just seen too many Leftist (on Twitter mostly) calling for violence towards people whose opinions they disagree with (not to say that the Right isn't doing the same) and that just doesn't go with me.

I'm thinking a lot about that, especially since I observe how the somewhat anarchical Fediverse is handling conflict.Admins defederate based on single misbehaving actors, people of other instances having different approaches to content moderation as them, #fediblock often is a toxic "there are people I strongly disagree with and so should you, or else you're a Nazi".I wish we'd be more open to dissent and letting people live their lives more often.

@lauren I'm strangely irritated by the direction the discourse around this topic has taken. I remember the angle having been "top secret is such is such an overused classification and everyone and their neighbour seem to getting clearance without intensive background checks" during the Snowden years. It's really confusing.

@Radical_EgoCom I don't see it happening, unfortunately. If it were to happen, it'd probably be a populist-conservative/nationalistic movement to do it. I don't see a sufficiently aligned left and even if a left-ish movement would arise, it'd be very difficult to gain the support of the military due to conflicting interests before being gunned down by them. France's protest culture is beautiful to watch though. I hope I'm totally wrong in my conclusion.

@Radical_EgoCom Nazis have been planning for instability in lots of democratic countries for decades and some of them are well funded and even supported by branches of several secret services. The left being anti gun (not saying that I'm pro gun) doesn't help the situation in terms of power balances while the right is known to have international networks and arms depots. Doesn't end well, I worry.
