I just saw a video of Ben Shapiro being Ben Shapiro.You can't convince me that a small amount of violence is never the answer. I'm certain to my core that some people would be seriously improved by a little ass kicking. Not a maiming or any other kind of permanent injury, mind you, just a knuckle sandwich in response to particularly egregious words.

@tek yeah, possibly, but keep in mind that you'll have to deal with a) them fighting back and b) being stronger/faster/more brutal than you.Not to forget that this line of thinking enables everyone, to apply violence to someone else and it'll only lead to a vicious cycle of rule of the strongest.

I've heard much pearl clutching in the context of whether it's OK to assault someone who used racial slurs. "Just because someone called the other person ---, it's OK for the other person to punch them?"Maybe, maybe not, but the puncher would definitely want me on the jury if they got taken to court.

@dictvm We're already there. Universally, the side saying shitty things is also the side willing to use violence to enforce their ability to. That leaves the "polite" side at a disadvantage in all ways.In the US, I hear the Democrats worry about things like "we should work within the established norms", then act shocked, shocked!, that the GOP ignores those norms to their own advantage.

@4bz @tek I agree. That's why I'm in support of the protests in France right now, for example.If your violence can prevent immediate harm for yourself, it's perfectly legit to use it. When people talk about punching people they disagree with, that's different.If that person is actively and directly encouraging others to harm you, violence towards that person is legit as well.
