The #TwitterTakeover hashtag is absolutely inundated with angry posts because Mastodon doesn't have QRTs, and the devs have specifically indicated that they don't want it to.A) This is NOT Twitter, and that is by design. There is a concerted effort to keep Mastodon from becoming Twitter, and I think we're on the right track.B) This is an open source project. You want QRTs? Fork it.C) Don't get shitty with the devs, they owe you nothing. Take your anger and entitlement back to Twitter.

@RL_Dane Yeah, I'm over the idea of Linux or FOSS going "mainstream". We've seen what happens to our nice things when the public at large catches on, and decides they like it too. Corporations look for some way to monetize it, usually at the expense of the product itself. They suck every good thing out of it, and eventually leave its dried up husk in a ditch somewhere.Rich people ruin everything.I like my FOSS stuff just how it is. Thanks.

Being a member of management, you become acutely aware of just how childish full-grown adults can be.You're a grown-up. Don't leave your damn dirty dishes in the break-room kitchen for others to clean up, and don't take other peoples' food from the fridge.That's not even getting into the gossip and general tribalism/cliqishness going on. It feels like I'm back in the 8th grade sometimes.This is basic, adult 101 shit here.

A few months ago, my SO arrived home with a 65 Inch, 4K TV. She still won't tell me how much money we spent on it.The picture is great and all, but now I'm having to go through and re-rip our entire DVD collection, upscaled to 1080P, because it all looks like total shit on that TV.Currently working through the entire Futurama collection. Next will be Looney Tunes, which will take forever because I have hundreds of them, followed by Disney cartoons.#FirstWorldProblems

Trying to get my users to understand that our chat server (XMPP) is not tied to any particular client, has been an ongoing challenge for years.We're using Gajim on our PCs, Conversations on phones, and Inverse as a web client. Users are still convinced that none of these can talk to each other, so they only use Gajim on their PCs, and assume that they have to go without on phones.When I try to explain it, they are completely dumbfounded, and still don't understand.#XMPP #Fediverse1/3

Attended yet another infuriating "grass is greener on the other side" meeting.We watched a presentation from someone at another library, about Sharepoint. After which, everyone sung the praises of all these great features that we can look forward to when we migrate, and how useful it's all going to be.Then I had to be the asshole, and point out that EVERY SINGLE ONE of these features that they're so excited about, we already have in Nextcloud.All of them.1/2

@mjg59 The US government, in particular, is just a mechanism to funnel money from the out of its citizen's pockets and up to the top 1%. Anything that sends money the other way goes against the system, and is either outright destroyed, or slowly chipped away at over time.

I need a Linux server recommendation.I have been trying, for nearly a month, to get a quote from System76, but apparently they just don't need business that badly.Does anyone have any recommendations for companies that sell servers that will play nice with Linux?I've had good luck with Dells, but Dell has pissed me off for the last time. @Bernard @RTP I have no faith in the general public anymore. If it's more convenient to give up all privacy to keep using what they're familiar with, the overwhelming majority of users will.
