@lowqualityfacts it should be our reminder that pursuit of "objectivity" and "unbiased" coverage is horseshit and just an excuse for letting republicans pull things to the right.

@Teri_Kanefield It probably helps to understand that the concept of quantifiable “intelligence” is bullshit. People are smart about some things and dumb about everything else. The variable is what your speciality is. In Trump’s case, he dedicated his life to the skills that go into con artistry. He’s an idiot about anything not relevant to that. By multiple accounts, he has no taste in music, he can’t read, he’s awful at managing his money, is a terrible partner, etc.

@TechConnectify People seem to not understand that companies are counting on their emotional response. Hype is manufactured to get you to buy in, or risk coming off as a downer. It's how they sell you stuff you don't need. Things actually worth your money and time are almost always less exciting at first glance.

As we all get frustrated with the fact new TV/movies are coming to a halt, just remember that this is and will continue to be the fault of the producers and studios, the capitalists who would rather shut down the arts than treat actors and writers just a little bit better.Push back on any narrative that implies your media comes back "when the writers and actors settle"; and instead make the statement that media will come back when hollywood execs stop being stubborn babies.

do not root for breaking the strike by litigation or force, insist the solution is to give the writers and actors what they deserve. If lawmakers get involved it should be to force the execs to give in.

there are probably going to be MSM pieces about how "oh boy, we want them to get paid, but if pols break the strike at least we can get our movies and tv back" always call this out as a false choice. it's done to pit us against the workers when our ire should be focused on the execs who can end this with a quick stroke of a pen.

on a more personal note, my advice for dealing with the void of content is: there's so much you haven't seen. get to talking with your friends about old content that they nerd out about, or go exploring on your own. ideally pay for a VPN and build a fileshare library on an external hard drive so you don't get price gouged.

@Teri_Kanefield @bhawthorne @DoctorDNS LOL this is wholly untrue. To get a spot on media criticizing a figure like Trump you have to bend over backwards to prove you aren’t technically incorrect. The only fist raisers who get spots are people with far right opinions. But keep doing your rules based order thing, because nobody decides when the rules matter, they are a magical entity that can deliver us from the tyrants who make them.

"making cities accessible to people without cars seems hard" I mean sure but you know what's fucking impossible? Getting everyone a car. Global car ownership is 5 percent and the cost is only going up. When you learn enough, you realize the only reason to think car-centric cities are acceptable is if you are ok with most people being completely screwed over. Such infrastructure is elitist cruelty and must be dismantled.

And eliminating car dependency is even beneficial to car owners! If you are easily able to get places without driving that means you are going to spend less on gasoline and oil changes. The road would have fewer collisions and insurance premiums would plummet. You wouldn't have to worry about being humiliated by a traffic cop when you wipe out on icy roads because you'd just take the train to that farwaway place you really need to be on a snowy day. Oh gee wait a minute, it's almost like a handful of industries are preventing this from happening for selfish reasons and deluding you guys into thinking it's for your own good. But just imagine! Your car costing a fraction of what it does, other options being readily available, and you getting to preserve its gas and lifespan for a handful of special trips that you'll be able to spend your extra money enjoying.

as part of walkable cities i think every block should have a pepperoni roll stand that makes pepperoni rolls and you can put the pepperoni rolls in the community microwave or just go home and enjoy your pepperoni roll.
