@Teri_Kanefield > The idea is for the GJ to provide a check on the prosecutor's power, so presumably the GJ would refuse absurd indictments. It *has* happened in history. CA has largely dispensed with that extra rigmarole, presumably on the theory that there are other checks in place to prevent abuse. Improves costs and efficiency. Have there been studies showing any difference in the fairness of the process?

@Teri_Kanefield Remember also that subpoenas in this context need lots and lots and *LOTS* of lead time. Time consuming motions to quash are also guaranteed.

@Teri_Kanefield > This is why I kept telling you all that Garland has to follow the rules and he was not going to listen to the very vocal former prosecutors in 2021 demanding that he reassure the public that ...I don't know what most complainers are saying, I just know that it is already too late to get indictments that would keep insurrectionists out of the House, avoidable or not. It'd have been nice to have indicted on *some*thing.

@Teri_Kanefield ??* House insurrectionists were re-elected in 2022, so it is too late for that.* It _would_ have been nice (from my perspective, even if not feasible) to have had an indictment for _some_thing.Having carefully read the FAQ (excellent, BTW), I don't see a conflict. :)

@Teri_Kanefield > indictments should have kept members of the house from being reelectedStronger: reasonable suspicion should have done that. "Should" is doing a lot of work here. :) I am certain that reasonable suspicion at least sandbagged their campaign some. It's my belief that indictments would have added sand, though some surely don't care if their MAGA representatives are indicted or even convicted.RE: lots of indictments -- just not of electeds. It's hard for me to ... @Teri_Kanefield @feditips I figured it out by observation: it is weak threading. If I reply to a particular post, the methodology is to try to keep its placement close to what I am replying to. In fact, when the replies get too "rats nesty", some replies won't show in the tree of responses.

@Teri_Kanefield > (These guy are not stupid.)Stupid is as stupid does. What they did was stupid. Really stupid. There are many channels of intellectual ability and there's a strong correlation in intelligence levels between them. Obviously, that correlation is not a lock-step. This was stupid. So, not idiots savant, but maybe the other way, savant idiots?

@Teri_Kanefield > I don't like to make predictions because courts tend to be unpredictable, but we're in the summary judgment phase, so here's my prediction:Shouldn't the application of law actually _be_ predictable? After all, it is inconvenient to be unable to figure out whether or not some act is illegal. Then again, IANAL. :(

@Teri_Kanefield I do have to say, tho, that *MY* life would be easier if tRUmp hadn't started so many fires in the first place.😭

@Teri_Kanefield Those saying it will have an effect on tRUmp's prosecution(s) are mistaken. Most of the competent commentators I've read are talking about full effect of the law next year. I sincerely hope that "next year" won't have tRUmp's indictments still at issue.Yes, when going for the king you can't miss. If the king were to be re-crowned, it's a miss. Also, his minions need sanctions, too. Otherwise, they'll align with someone else.

@Teri_Kanefield MTG will find a new tRUmp. She/they will not give up, true enough. My speculative theory of the case, that also explains the overall behavior of the Republican Party: the party is sold out to oligarchs who, in turn, are largely in cahoots with the Russian Mafia. If that is not true, then the party still behaves as if it were, so it's more of a distinction than a difference.

@Teri_Kanefield SoL: What did I miss? I read from some reliable source that I can't remember that the NY SoL was suspended when tRUmp moved to Florida. If true, and given that there were acts of furtherance while in office, I'd think there is still a lot of run time. So, what am I missing?

@LadyDragonfly Since this doesn't run in families but is more-or-less random within a population, wouldn't it actually be fratricide?

@Teri_Kanefield This is not good, WRT a clean 2020 election:https://www.newsweek.com/texas-ag-says-trump-wouldve-lost-state-if-it-hadnt-blocked-mail-ballots-applications-being-1597909"Texas AG Says Trump Would've 'Lost' State If It Hadn't Blocked Mail-in Ballots Applications Being Sent Out"and it's from 2021. But, yes, Krebs was referring to just vote tallying and not voting in general.

@mattblaze NPR didn't explain the rationale for a single dose for those with no vaccination history. As I got my 6th shot in the spring, I personally don't need the answer. I'm left curious tho.
