While mastodon.el is pretty good, it suffers from a common Emacs mode downside: network communication blocks Emacs. Not all modes have this property, but I guess something about Emacs' design makes it tricky to avoid. This is mostly a problem because freeradical.zone is a bit sluggish these days.

@tek It's never been bad enough to prevent me from using it, and it feels a bit faster right now than two days ago.

I invite everyone to suggest terrible names for this cool program that my student wrote: https://github.com/diku-dk/parallel-parser/issues/2

Can anyone explain why command line tools moved away from the "silence is golden" paradigm? This toot inspired by Python's "black", which prints boldface, colour, sparkles, and a cake emoji when things go well.

@tek But that's even worse! You only read those logs when things go wrong, and it's much harder to find pertinent information when the output is a complete fruit salad. The kids are not alright on this one.

I apparently have many questions about computers today. Bad sign. Good thing I'll be spending the weekend walking around a forest in a robe.

@tek I let my membership lapse when I realised I was supposed to adhere to that code. I later re-enrolled for practical reasons, but I refuse to adhere. Intellectual property law is not a question of ethics.

@tek You can actually use gold for real things, like paperweights, or conducting electricity (so you can transfer Bitcoin).

How tragic that non-programmers will never experience the pleasure of removing a thousand lines of code you first wrote eight years ago. https://futhark-lang.org/blog/2023-12-04-end-of-an-optimisation.html
