I see a TV ad for gold. It's got everything in one place: the notion that a hunk of metal is inherently valuable, that old people are right to be scared about the future, and that it will be useful if/when things fall apart.Gold is Bitcoin for boomers.

@tek It’s my understanding that THERE MAY NEVER BE A BETTER TIME TO BUY GOLD.

@tek This has been going on so long, I use it as a yardstick for advertising prices and news quality.Channels hate alienating sponsors, and that influences their news. The gold people have a low ad budget. If a channel offers both news and gold ads, the news is dubious at best.

@mwl You know it.But also, is this channel optimized for scaring old people? If they're hawking gold, you can bet their business model is convincing boomers that their life depends on staying tuned in.

@tek hard agree.Last summer, I tuned into the local sober news channel (WWJ) to get traffic reports, and caught a gold ad for the first time there. Decided I'd rather risk the traffic.

@tek You can actually use gold for real things, like paperweights, or conducting electricity (so you can transfer Bitcoin).

@tek Every actual credible prepper I've heard has said that gold is like, the last thing you should be "investing" in. ALL of them encourage investing real money because the odds of an actual grid-down SHTF scenario are lower than the paranoid preppers say it is, and in the event of such a scenario skills like medical and mechanical training are worth way more than a useless hunk of metal. Even for trade people would rather have food, useful goods, or services.
