@thomasfuchs School, in the 70's, taught us Algol in maths class and took us weekly up to the local tech college to run our short, error filled programs on an Elliot 907 [?] or the ICL something or other, whatever was in use that day.

@Ricardus Have to sympathise with the band a moment - what they get by bringing their own system is Control and Repeatability. E.g. They don't know you are an amazing sound guy with a great rig - the next gig they play might just have a total klutz running a crappy old PA, so they take that possibility out of the frame. It's a way of managing their risk.

@Ricardus The backstory makes the reasons for your frustration clearer. And I agree the stage is not the place to judge the sound, though small bands in small clubs may not have a choice. So you won't have to tolerate that band in the future? Problems that solve themselves are ok.

@Ricardus Aviation!! Did you see Sully? How does he talk to ATC with no mic or no headset? He swings from talking with first officer, straight to ATC as if they are in the cockpit listening to it all.IIRC correctly he doesn't use aviation radio procedure either, even before the birdstrike. Also, don't get me started on martial arts or any kind of fighting.Or poker! Players making crazy plays with apparently some kind of superhuman knowledge of the outcome.

@Ricardus Fraid so yes. So jet crews don't wear big noise protecting headsets, but they could have put on the little call centre like sets that are normal in airliners, to make it realistic.Still a decent movie though.

@Ricardus I'd like to see the Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis of that update to the stall response systems on the MAX-8. If it exists, somebody should be pulling that up right now. If it doesn't - well that isn't a good way to economise, is it?

@Ricardus Yes I have used Gorilla Epoxy. It is less viscous than regular Araldite and I found it reliable and strong.

@viciousviscosity For tweaks of really small dimensions in plastics, I would choose one of the burrs [carbide?] as a bit. They come down to about 1/8" dia in various shapes - e.g. ball, cylinder, cone.Personally I use a Proxxon rotary tool [german manufr] rather than Dremel, but whatever works, works.

@Ricardus Also decades ago, had similar trip to a recording week in a studio. Snow, frozen up car heater and pregnant wife in my car, then the keyboardist wrecked his sports car into a field. Unforgettable trip on all fronts.

@mmu_man Woooh! First Orics I've seen for 30 years. Mine was an Atmos. It was like the Betamax of the personal computer market.

@cybette My first thought was Science of Cambridge MK14, 8 bit processor kit. 256 bytes of user RAM. But then I remembered the ace up my sleeve - an Elliot 901 mainframe! Coded that in Algol at the local technical college.

@cybette Yeah I was a lucky schoolboy. Maths group got to write code then take it up to the computer suite at the college.

@Ricardus That's pretty much correct. But if a ball was not intentionally played back to the keeper, e.g. by a deflection or other action, the keeper will be able to use their hands.

@KitRedgrave @Azure A technique for thought-watching:See the thoughts starting on the left, and flowing to the right, and falling off the end of your view. Observe them. No judgement or frustration, no investment, they are just there.Given time, they can appear rather embarrassed about being watched and slow down. Ideally to a stoppage of verbal thinking, given enough practice.

@strypey The last contact I had from them was Dec 20. The direction of their changes from the initial website where I uploaded an album never became clear to me.

I've been committing lutherie!Got a paid job to bring an old, worn, and generally neglected fiddle back into respectable playing condition. Pic shows the pre-repair condition.* Three different types of pegs, that don't work* Treble top corner knocked off* Existing poor repair of cracks at F-hole* Detached and heavily worn fingerboard and nut* Dull finish with deep divots in places.* Plates separated from ribs in about 6 locationsAlso - a bow with half its hair and lack of tension.1/2
