I was not in the office tonight at the barn. The band brought their own sound system and apparently wanted to run it themselves. It seems like a gigantic waste of time and energy to bring an inferior sound system into a venue when the venue already has a great one, but hey, what do I know?

@Ricardus you're only the professional sound engineer! I'm sure you'll be blown away by the superior sound quality that can be generated by The Swamp Ass Enlightenment Trio

@tomasino I'll hear about it if it happens. Either way, I had the night off so that's cool. Best part? I got paid, anyway.

@Ricardus Have to sympathise with the band a moment - what they get by bringing their own system is Control and Repeatability. E.g. They don't know you are an amazing sound guy with a great rig - the next gig they play might just have a total klutz running a crappy old PA, so they take that possibility out of the frame. It's a way of managing their risk.

@Stringbender They've played our venue half a dozen times in 2 years. They know I am more than competent. This is certainly a control issue for 2 of the 3 members. These two members are also widely disliked in the local music scene for their behaviour. Bottom line is this. The stage is the WORST place in the world to listen to a band (ironic, isn't it?). I've got vintage 60s studio gear in my outboard rack. Nothing they have comes close. All they did was make themselves sound worse.

@Stringbender This whole process really pissed off the owner, too. So what the band ended up doing was making it so they have one less venue to play. We have people knocking on our door to play, and looks like of of them is going to fill their spot in our schedule.

@Ricardus The backstory makes the reasons for your frustration clearer. And I agree the stage is not the place to judge the sound, though small bands in small clubs may not have a choice. So you won't have to tolerate that band in the future? Problems that solve themselves are ok.

@Stringbender Their beatings will be both long and severe.
