That is the design for larger ships.For a small boat like this, they make the bottom flat and the stern to sit lower in the water so that when you get up to speed, it skims the top of the water rather than sitting down it in. It's a common feature of speed boats and recreational craft, like a cigarette boat or a competition hydroplane. Though hopefully you stay lower in the water than this one.

If you make smoke, the heat's too high.There is nothing magic about seasoning cast iron. I use dish detergent all the time. It takes about 3 minutes to re-season, almost all of which is waiting for the pan to heat up.The idea is to heat the iron so that the iron crystals expand and spread slightly and the oil can penetrate the surface. 300F (130C) is more than sufficient. I just put it on the burner on medium heat until it gets the dull grey appearance of cast iron. Then I pull it from the heat, pour in a couple of tablespoons of whatever fat I have handy, and wipe it all over the inside with a folded up paper towel. If it all gets absorbed, sometimes I'll add some more.Any oil or fat will do, lard, tallow, olive oil, whatever. Grapeseed oil has a high smoking point, and very little flavor, so it's popular.Normally though, just using the pan to fry things is sufficient to keep it seasoned, and plain water is sufficient to clean it.
