Just discovered Clear linux. Anyone have experience with it? Apparently the performance is outworldish.

@werwolf I think this is only partially true, as I would expect other kinds of improvements, such as disabling features and changing clock frequency. Did you read this somewhere? I couldn't find anything in their documentation. Thanks!

Hey fosstodoners (?), I would like to learn more about low-tech/green tech/sustainable tech etc, where people get their gadgets and info and things like that.I am a researcher in compational methods, and would really like to orient my career in that direction, at least I would feel more of a game changer.Share if you want in order to check the resources obtained, I will share the bounty later on anyway :)

@werwolf indeed, for now I'm not using any. But, for example, converge as being achieved by @PINE64 could drastically reduce power usage just by finally acknowledging that phones can handle most everyday tasks, even for some office workers. Or maybe just setting linux kernels the right way could reduce power usage, i.e. by using adequate power settings plus reducing cpu clock time and bloated services (if any).

Hi fosstodoners, I am trying to create a simple.css based site in hopes of creating a Blog + CV site (I'm in the middle of a job application so it seemed adequate). For it, I made a small entry on some linux commands that I didn't know about, hopefully it will be useful to someone :)https://mate.unipv.it/barnafi/blog/2_linux_tips.php

@mike I for one hope that governmens realize that CO2 compensation is pointless, and so these server intensive tasks become obsolete.I was already scared about this technology when an AI generated video of Obama started circling the internet. It keeps getting worse.

Today I upgraded an old PC from HDD to SSD. Honestly, I believe this is the only reasonable update for someone having a 'slow pc' besides good maintenance (for simple home use). It has an AMD Phenom o.o and still works like a charm, with only 4Gb of RAM. Anyone had experiences like this one?

@kev I guess many of us have some kind of server, even if it is just a rasPi. Is this somehow useful? I'd be more than happy to support fosstodon with my Pi(s).@mike @kev I have never actually said it so, thank you both for this marvelous work, I have discovered an amazing number of things I wouldn't have found otherwise. I truly believe FOSS grows faster because of this platform, and it's all on you.

@urusan besides the already mentioned backwards search (ctrl r), which I love, I started using the 'most recent command starting with' using !, and the cherry on top is the 'whoops maybe not yet': go to end (ctrl e), cut all (ctrl u) and later on, yank (ctrl y). Life savers.

@mike I have it and it works great. Usually use it for subscriptions and stuff like that.It is extremely satisfying when you see the trackers removed :), hopefully they will keep the service running for a while.

@joel I did two things:1. Everything is a deadline, try to keep as many as possible. Also: add them to your favorite calendar app.2. I bought perforated sheets where I would write again my notes, but now in order. This worked for me... As others say, try many things, keep whatever fits you best.

@textovervideo Im quite happy with it. Some sites dont work, which is even better... i see it as a consequence of blocking things. It might be a false impression, but it's better than nothing I guess.

@urusan I once had a user for my GF and after a while decided to delete the account due to inactivity. Problem is... This removed all of her files. Didnt see that coming.I still apologise every now and then.

#TellFedi there is a #regolithlinux repo with wayland support! Best news, although I'm not sure if I will pull through the installation. Anyone using it? (Probably me in a few days)

@EU_Commission jumping from 1.5 to 2 can mean two things: either your computers support only integers, or you have dementia.

@james what is frogfind? I keep hitting this problem with NYTimes, so a way for circumventing it would nice, as I will not give them my email (as they suggest).

So... GF got a new computer because mine was too complicated (it has regolith and kde plasma).Am I to blame for giggling every time she doesnt find a configuration? Like, "why would they need a credit card for a free trial" or "why does it not turn off" kind of issues.Remember to donate to your favorite foss if you enjoy it as much as I do.
