#university students (or people that already finished studies, how do u actually keep track of classes and homework and stuff?I got into the #productivity rabbit hole again on #youtube and keep watching videos about calendars, #notion setups and stuff, and I can't help but feel there's probably better ways xDI would like the #emacs folks to give some ideas too xDSome screenshots of your methods would be cool too#askfediverse #askfedi #askmastodon

@joel In my school most teachers use Google Classroom. Then, I just have a plain text file witch I work with using vim as a calendar, to-do and other basic stuff. Simple, I know, but enough for me. :D

@hacknorris I know it's maybe too much to ask but. Which app? Is it plain text? Do you follow any format? I've done todo lists but I always feel like they aren't specific enough, should I add "do homework" or make it class specific or specify each problem/research subjects? Sorry :blobcatderpy:

@array so you just transfer stuff from classroom into plain text or you got a script to do it for you? What kinda format do you use on the vim file?

@joel no, find an app which supports sublists or list trees, make subjects and then under it write whats really to do or info about it... ez.

@joel No, in the Classroom webapp they share stuff like PDFs for theory, tasks and so on, I just download the materials provided in a folder with ordered, hyerarchical subfolders to have the stuff locally. The format is plain text, well, I use MarkDown actually, but I just put everything manually, ordering stuff by category and date in different text blocks. Not very fancy, but a quick look brings me back all I need to know. ;)

@joel kanban, man! I've never done any post-secondary education, but that's how I'd manage it all if ever I was going to.

@joel it's either org-mode or try the built in diary function to start with for appointments. The diary is functional but you can start of with a basic org-mode setup and a similarly basic org-capture template.

@joel - Scheduled items/deadlines go into a calendar- Tasks go into a todo.txt file- Projects get their own Taskpaper file.A few bash scripts to send me reminders from the todo.txt and Taskpaper files.I have a Telegram bot that I use to add items to my todo.txt file, I really need to publish it. The Telegram bot is nice because I can add items wherever I am with whatever device I want.I do everything with plaintext - https://www.gozgeek.com/projects/plaintext/There is no better way, only a way that works for you. 😉 Since I almost always have a terminal window open (I run everything on a VPS) plaintext works the best for me.

@joel I did two things:1. Everything is a deadline, try to keep as many as possible. Also: add them to your favorite calendar app.2. I bought perforated sheets where I would write again my notes, but now in order. This worked for me... As others say, try many things, keep whatever fits you best.

@joel I have a blog about it. You usually need a combination between a to do list and a daily / weekly / monthly calendar, depending on your preferences, and either be digital or analog thats up to you
