@textovervideo I use it for work and for my phone. Whenever I come across a site that requires Chromium-based browser it's my go-to.

@textovervideo Im quite happy with it. Some sites dont work, which is even better... i see it as a consequence of blocking things. It might be a false impression, but it's better than nothing I guess.

@werwolf @birnim In these last few days I have been reading about the history of JavaScript. Seems like the Brave browser makes some unique claims.I am wondering if there is truth to these claims.

@textovervideo @werwolf every software product that is profit oriented makes unique claims. if I used Brave, I would feel like a crypto mining slave, so I don't. you don't have to agree with this point though. also Brave compromised itself with this https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/brave-privacy-bug-exposes-tor-onion-urls-to-your-dns-provider/

@textovervideo one of those features certainly isn't that it's based on google's blink engine

@birnim @textovervideo I don't like Brave either. It's a Chromium based browser that removes Google's telemetry and adds their own. Brave's goal is to replace Google ads with their own (cryptocurrency related). All their income comes from advertising, which effectively makes them an advertising company.Advertising and privacy are incompatible. Even when you disable Brave Rewards, it still makes connections to Brave servers. And it doesn't have any unique feature AFAIK.

@textovervideo isn't there questionable telemetry in the brave browser?what are the unique features?do the unique features outweigh the questionable tracking techniques?

@textovervideo can you elaborate on these rather than just spouting sales lines?I'm not really in the habit of "this person says its the best privacy so it must be true" behaviorbest privacy, how? why is it better than, say, librewolf or palemoon?3x faster than chrome, what are the criteria? how about comparing to non-chrome browsers?better protection, how? again, compare with other browsers.

@textovervideo I sue it. I am not sure about the telemetry stuff. But all browsers are kind of shit and I have a good experience with brave. Also the features are cool, like bookmark sync, tor l2p. send tabs to other devices, block ads abnd trackers. Also it's opensource

@textovervideo OK cool, so you don't really have any proofs other than what the company itself is telling you. that's fine, the context helps.I would recommend reading third party reports and benchmarks about the brave browser, there's a lot to be concerned about with it.it's a fine browser for general use but in my opinion it's far from the best for privacy.that and I'm fed up with Chrome clones

@paul This is why I brought up the topic here on Mastodon. Trying to get people's opinions and experiences about the Brave browser.
