@inference @towo Inference I have a pleroma account with which I have tried to follow you. So I have a way out should things get bad.On ethics of software and free speech, I don’t have a problem with mastodon. On my alt, I occasionally talk with Pete and some others from FSE. It is fun, but sometimes I wanna be protected from those instances and the blocklist then benefits me.I may not agree with Eugen on some issues, but I am with mastodon for now.

@inferenceLook, I fully understand your mentality and respect it. But I would guess it is not everyone’s cup of tea.Those who do want to go past the fedi block will do so, and they have options for it. For the better or the worse, Eugen is the lead dev, and he gets to decide what he does with his creation, just as you can choose to use something that provides more freedom.

@inference I am sorry if this is an opinion that annoys you, but some things are not just a binary 0 or 1 scale.A few things do bug me overall in the decision making from Eugen, but I am far from wanting to delete this account. Overall I would say I am kinda satisfied with it.Also this instance has so far worked 100% bug free, which I do treasure.

@inference You are right on the principles.Here is the thing though. Invasion of privacy from google and fb had many stages. For some time, I was ok with the data collection.I decided to delete everything when I saw a lecture from Prof. Zuboff about the emotion contagion experiment they did, as well as Myanmar and Christopher Wiley. It took many violations. Eugen has some wrongdoings in his history, which I don’t consider a dealbreaker for the time being.

People pushing surveillance smart devices, vitamins, cars, gatcha mobile games.I don’t care about any of that. I was staying on yt for some Linux tutorials.Honestly my mental health is better without yt.

@solidsanek Well, I will for once talk somewhat seriously.It just really bugs me how disposable phones are today. They just throw higher numbers of ram or megapixels or number of cameras to wow us. The sad reality is that the software support on most of these arm boards is for one kernel version and that’s it.They are just meant to end up in a landfill.

@solidsanekYes, battery replacement is just as important.Anyway, I don’t want to rant too much. I guess that’s just how the phone world is right now. If I dwell too far on issues like this I end up a grumpy person myself. I try to live by what I love instead of what I hate, and thus it is better to just focus on other stuff, like laptops or math, or skirts.
