@info_activism If you don't shop online, bank online, or use corporate social media you can block almost all of those trackers, leaving only your ISP as a hazard. I use a phone with no Google Play Sevices and no ad supported anything on it. I never see ads on my phone at all. The majority of corporate websites plus the shopping and banking sites are completely nonfunctional and many just don't load. Google and Meta are blocked outright on my end. Some thought not all dating apps etc can be quarantined to a non-activated second phone tethered to your main connection. Obviously anything requiring a Facebook or Google account should be boycotted Main way a corporation would get my phone number is anyone having me in their contacts and having the Facebook app installed. I do not, but someone having my phone number and using the FB app is probably equivalent to sending it to FB myself. This app is known to steal contact lists and send them to FB unless contact syncing is turned off and KEPT turned off when "updates" reset privacy preferences back to defaults.

@info_activism There is also the opposite scenaro: producing video of a protest or a direct action that you want to make as difficult as possible for prosecutors to use in court. In this scenario, metadata is stripped and heavy editing including blurring faces may be applied. All this depends on what the video is being used for. Clips sent to defense attorneys may require different handling than a communique published via a sock puppet account. A clip of war crimes or police brutality is a special case: in that scenario the video should be provable as to when and where is was shot and forensically difficult to challenge. If you shoot something like this on a camera card, stop shooting to that card afterwards but only remove it from the camera if you KNOW this won't risk losing it outright. If it's a fullsize camera card set the slider for read-only. Do not write to it again, just read the clips from it into a computer, preferably with it mounted read-only. Then set it aside in a secure place.

Fundamentalists shouted down at DC's Capitol PrideAs always, Capitol Pride in Washington DC was a festive event with hundreds of thousands showing up. Although many consider DC a safe haven, the hateful, genocidal politics spreading elsewhere in the US cast a shadow over the event. As in the past two years, Fundamentalist, probably Christian nationalist street preachers set up in a prime spot at Connecticut Ave S side of Dupont Circle. Again as before, they were jeered and shouted down, totally neutralized in DC. When their followers pack a school board in rural Florida or Texas it's not so easy to halt their attack.

@info_activism This could be stopped fast if people used unregistered phones, stopped using Google or Facebook for anything, used their bank cards to get cash instead of buying with trackable cards, limited online shopping to items not available in any store, and blocked 3ed party tracking widgets on all websites,I literally have not seen a targeted ad in well over a decade.

@Radical_EgoCom They should release all the inmates, lock all the guards in the cells, and then walk away from that hellhole. This jail alone is a valid reason for Atlanta's war against Cop City

@Radical_EgoCom First of all, that Dekalb County Jail is so bad anyone held there for anything less than an assault causing serious personal injury and for more than a night or two has already received a punishment worse than their crime. All guilty verdicts for less than than against anyone held there should get a time-served sentence with nothing else added.I see this from a worst-case to worst-case perspective. There is nobody inside any prison I would not rather face in the streets than inside the prison. Note that I speak as one with effective self-defense capabilities that essentially neutralize such things as muggings as an issue. In armed confrontations, I generally go into "deter and drive off" mode, and in some cases have chased gaybashers a block or so, then let them go hoping they would be too afraid of facing a faster runner to try again. I did this many times during the storm of gaybashings DC faced after the 1986 Hardwick case. Eventually the string of attacks died out.In this scenario, it's not that every person is too dangerous to attack, rather its that some are and a career robber targetting the general public has to get lucky every night. Same for gaybashers etc. My price for letting Trump out of prison is releasing every other prisoner, with Trump being the last to walk out. If we decide to hold rapists and murderers, that includes those who solicit racist murder like Trump and DeSantis. Trump is up there with Charles Manson as worst of the worst.

New and ugly news from Atlanta: apparently the government intends to refuse to even start the process of certifying the petitions for the ballot measure to cancel the Cop City lease. They are citing the 61 RICO indictments as the excuse. This raises another question: was this the whole purpose of the indictments? Are they willing to threaten 61 people with a fate some consider worse than death so they can cancel a vote they know they can never win? That sounds like "democracy" as practiced by the theocrats who have been grinding the people of Iran under their boots, or by Putin as he does the same to the people of Russia. They need to understand that a cancelled election of this type is incredibly destabilizing. US politics are already a powderkeg, and the so-called "Democrats" in Atlanta by killing democracy threaten to put a match to the works.

@info_activism Note that "find my phone" cannot be used when Google Play Services is disabled or not present. Not sure of this but it probably requires a Google Account too. That in turn could allow a 3ed party with a warrant (or a hack) inside Google to find your phone. No Google account and disabling/removing/never having had Google Play Services cuts off a massive flow of data to Google and makes it much harder to find you by watching Google. In particular, this also disables Googe Maps, which is the program that found so many of the J6 terrorists. With no Google Play services, nobody can quietly turn location sharing and Google Maps back on.If you do have a Google-ized phone and it gets taken by the cops, DO wipe it remotely even though that can bring an obstruction charge. Obstruction is a DUTY when your friends are at risk and may protect others from worse charges.A remote wipe will only work if they are dumb enougb to start it up however momentarily outside of a Faraday cage, so don't rely on it working. If you have strong encryption with no biometrics and it is not captured running, the cops won't be able to get in anyway. At J20, it was either 1/3 or 2/3ds (I forget which) that were encrypted well enough the cops could not get in. With 230+ phones to deal with not much time could be given to any one of them though.

@info_activism Also note that if you know how or can figure out how to use the ADB (Android Debugging Bridge) USB interface, you can disable EVERY vendor-installed trash app. Crucially, this includes the Facebook app, which I've seen preinstalled on some phones with disabling it "blocked." You can still kill it over ADB, commands look like this:adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 (some malicious app)Note that carrier installed malware like Carrier IQ(found last year added by an AT&T SIM or a store employee to an unlocked non-carrier phone) MUST be removed! If the phone won't start after doing so, remove the SIM card and the phone will then start. Get another SIM from a different carrier. Probably you will find only the bulk phone service resellers to be usable given this .Another reason you don't want carrier apps or carrier phones is tethering. You want unrestricted tethering at full speed and as high a percentage or your data as needed. Carriers HATE this as it cuts their ad partners out of the mix. A phone with something like Graphene never "checks your plan" before allowing tethering, a carrier phone always does, a stock unlocked phone may or may not. You can defeat all the anti-tether crap by tethering over USB with Azilink if nothing else works. Device-only bandwidth is useless if you don't want to pay for an (easily verified to your address) landline.

Some of the same old lies told as propaganda in previous wars are now being recycled. Israeli media are claiming to have found beheaded babies at one of the sites raided by Hamas. This should be presumed false unless proven otherwise. Remember those proven false claims during the first Iraq War of Iraqi soldiers unplugging incubators in Kuwait? These sort of stories are even older than that, much older. My father fought in WWII. He told me that the Americans accused the Japanese AND the Japanese accused the Americans of roasting babies on bayonets. He also told me this was thankfully false on both sides, it was just hot air from propagandists trying to whip up support for the war among their general public. In WWI the Brits and Americans accused the Germans of literally crucifying a Canadian soldier. That too was total crap, as was a German claim of U-boat sailors being thrown alive into a destroyer's boiler furnaces.

@aaronpettman When I think of ICE, I think of ice cubes being thrown into boiling water. Both FBI and ICE harassment of Palestinians in the U$ and the physical attacks on Palestinian protesters by pro-Israel protesters are for all practical purposes an extension of the fighting to the US.

@info_activism I do not get ads at all, due to very intensive ad and tracker blocking. About 80% of (mostly ignored) commercial websites don't work on my setups, but you do NOT see ads.I literally have phones that have never shown notification ads since they were made and do not see any ads but inline ads that come from the same server on a few sites.I have taken extreme steps to deny personal info to ad networks, at the price that my normal OS cannot be used for things like online shopping (which I do not do anyway).

@info_activism Give the real world of Tor and VPN's, enforcement would have to include random police checks of phones on the street, with automatic ticketing or arrest of anyone whose phone cops could not unlock. Even then, a second phone kept in a place of concealment, not activated, and tethered to the "legal" one would be a bypass.People are stronger than cops, and even more so online than in realspace

THIS is interesting: Remember when Israel claims Hamas had a giant headquarters compound under al-Shifa hospital? The reason you don't hear about al-Shifa anymore is that after that horiffic siege and battle, no Hamas headquarters was found underneath the hospital at all. Just 8 rusty old AK's, a laptop and some CD's.The claim of a huge HQ underneath has now been memory-holed. This is in the same category as the Pizzagate claim that all those tunnels and studios were supposed to be underneath Comet Pizza in DC-or GW Bush's fake WMD stories about Iraq. All three proven wrong by physical search.Israel deleted their al-Shifa claims but the Internet remembers..

@mkljczk @madargon @aral @mackaj They don't have to: any server can refuse to federate with any objectionable server. Gab for instance is a standalone Mastodon instance, but everyone else has them blocked. There is a movement to block threads as well

@aljazeera I hope that while such construction is ongoing, someone manages to rain rockets on the construction sites. Close range barrage fired from line-of-sight, no time for Iron Dome to even wake up. Would look like March 5 at Cop City with all those burning bulldozers.
