A single phone number is a valuable asset used to verify a person’s identity and behaviour, not only in digital spaces but also in physical spaces. Find out how your phone number is shared and traded with other entities: https://theglassroom.org/en/capsule-1-0/exhibits/your-phone-number-is-not-only-yours/

@info_activism If you don't shop online, bank online, or use corporate social media you can block almost all of those trackers, leaving only your ISP as a hazard. I use a phone with no Google Play Sevices and no ad supported anything on it. I never see ads on my phone at all. The majority of corporate websites plus the shopping and banking sites are completely nonfunctional and many just don't load. Google and Meta are blocked outright on my end. Some thought not all dating apps etc can be quarantined to a non-activated second phone tethered to your main connection. Obviously anything requiring a Facebook or Google account should be boycotted Main way a corporation would get my phone number is anyone having me in their contacts and having the Facebook app installed. I do not, but someone having my phone number and using the FB app is probably equivalent to sending it to FB myself. This app is known to steal contact lists and send them to FB unless contact syncing is turned off and KEPT turned off when "updates" reset privacy preferences back to defaults.
