https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/94.0/releasenotes/"With 94, you’ll find a selection of six fun seasonal Colorways (available for a limited time only)."Absolutely fuck all the way off, #firefox.Remember when it was the open browser, with loads of extensively-customizing themes?Good times.

"On Windows, there will now be fewer interruptions because Firefox won’t prompt you for updates. Instead, a background agent will download and install updates even if Firefox is closed."*Absolutely* fuck all the way off. That's the thing that breaks opening new tabs on a regular basis if you've had it on, or have done updates on Linux while FF was running. :/

How much have Google burnt me on chat apps by this point?Well, I spent my weekend setting up a Matrix instance with TURN so I can still videocall my parents, so.

(It bugs me to still have to rely on someone else hosting Element, but the mobile notification story is just horrible for individuals.)

Currently the main problem with friends migrating here has been they signed up on The Default Instance, and The Default Instance has problems that means it's unfederated with here and the like and they can't actually follow me or vica-versa, at which point they get exasperated.Matrix went through a bit (possibly still are?) where they went "we have traction now, no more signups on The Default Instance, it defeats the point", and I'm left wondering if Masto would benefit from the same.

@ressu Yeah, but as an introductory experience, "congrats on signing up---you can't actually reconnect with the people you wanted to, so go do all that again" is...trying the patience of even the most eager. At that point migration is academic since there's nothing to migrate.(It also tremendously sucks that m.s *has* said issues, because some of this is on me going "the instance doesn't matter, I guess you could default to that one" to the first friend to try before remembering.)

One of these days I'll remember that even though icons like :andknuckles_1: :andknuckles_2: :andknuckles_3: :andknuckles_4: :andknuckles_5: :andknuckles_6: :andknuckles_7: :andknuckles_8: are designed to run together, Masto doesn't render them without space separation.

@Rasp (Unfortunately I don't think I ever found who did this art or combined it with the quote, but the quote's from a strip with a pretty different tone: http://portsherry.com/comic/a-shaggy-and-dog-story/ )

I oft think of how a colleague said were living in a digital dark age where so much of our knowledge and culture will be lost. And that was *before* everyone decided to take things it off the web and stick them in a closed, propritary platform "because it's the new thing".

(Their position wasn't *just* "anything not in the sight of the Internet Archive", but also that basically all digitial data storage is so much more fragile than ink and paper. Yeah it's great and lossless and all...so long as you have someone with the means and will to keep shuffling it forward, onto replacement hardware, onto new formats if needed. Stuff can become unreadable in mere *decades* without effort and funding.)

@mjg59 SSH's whack version of certs belongs with its "your session is tied 1:1 with a TCP connection" on why any serious remote shell implementation reinvets it with WebSockets instead, and why it belongs in the trashheap of legacy non-web protocols like FTP and POP3.(The me from a decade ago is screaming.)

@eevee yes but at least now it can view text files up to several megabytes in size, a feat computers were literally incapable of until this moment

@nkizz Pegasus on Win3.1 isn't very exciting, but also at some point I just wanted to get *any* client working :blobcat_mlem: https://plush.city/@LionsPhil/110550946667722741Maybe at some point I'll bang my head against getting FixPak 5 on Warp 4 again, or making NeXTStep see a network card.

Why are you stressing about arbitrary code execution vulnerabilities in #curl ? You were just going to pipe the output to sh anyway. :ablobcatcoffee:
