@MandyJane I don't understand companies keep doing this. I understand why it would be tried once; an advertiser notices that trans is all over social media and tries to cash in, but it's already proven to be a really poor strategy that leads to boycotts.

@LostInCalifornia In the UK, people tend to lie to pollsters when they are planning to vote conservative. There have been several elections where the polls wrongly predicted labour would win because of this.But I was mostly thinking of the poll where men said they wouldn't commit rape, but when the question was re-worded, most admitted they would. I suspect most progressive men would have a knee-jerk response to a question that used the phrase 'traditional gender roles'. But asking them how often they clean the toilet, or would they want to live with a woman who earns more than they do or expects them to do the housework might have yielded different responses.

@LostInCalifornia I'm sure men can grasp, in theory, that traditional roles means less income. However, in practice a lot of them seem to expect their wives/girlfriends to work full time whilst also maintaining a more traditional (i.e. the woman does everything) set up at home. A quick read through of relationships posts on reddit or mumsnet is enough to confirm that plenty men think this way.

@stephagain This is my phone. Without a memory card it is a dumb phone like we all had in the 90s. According to the instruction manual, if I put a memory card in it I would be able to access the internet. @stephagain It's right there on the list of services I would be able to use if I got a memory card. Without the card it only does calls and texts which is all I need.

@stephagain Yes, it's very frustrating how access to these apps has become pretty much compulsory, unless you want to be a friendless hermit!I don't currently have whatsapp, because if I did, I would be bothered by work related messages on my day off and I need my day off to be completely work free. If my kids were young enough to need me involved in arranging their social lives, I would probably get it so we weren't left out.

@virvallis Archaeological evidence? There have been a few bodies buried with weapons who were assumed to be male but on closer inspection turned out to be female. I assume that's what is meant here. But that's not evidence of prehistoric transgenderism, it's just evidence that archaeologists can make sexist assumptions as well as any other profession.

@FemaleIsNotAFeeling @Blackgendermoderate @virvallis I used to have one of Marguerite Patten's books of recipes from WWII. Many of the recipes were about making a tiny quantity of meat or eggs go a very long way. Our favourite was the rosehip syrup, which was made as a way of making sure everyone got their vitamin c when citrus fruit couldn't be imported. I still make that sometimes.

Was one of the first films I watched with offspring when she started feeling ready for slightly scary stuff.I'd add The Adams Family, Witches of Eastwick and Hereditary to the list.Also Cabin on the Woods, but that might be too close to slasher for your taste.
